Tow rating for the VX

I just bought a new boat, it weighs approx. 6,000 pounds with trailer. Can I safely pull it with my 2001 LWB VX (3.4L)? I have the ARB medium level suspension upgrade.

I also have a 2007 Pathfinder (4.0L V6) that can safely pull the boat, however, the wife hates it after switching from a VW Touareg, so it may have to go.... I searched for these ratings but could not find any info.

The tow rating is 2.5 tonne... so I think 6000 pound = 2.7 tonne... so unless i've used the wrong tonne/ton (UK)/ton (US) in the conversion... I guess you'd be over the recommended tow rating

2.7 tons against 2.5 tons is not a huge variance for the maximum allowed, would it be a significant safety risk should I decide to go ahead and two the boat with my truck?

I hardly ever tow with my 98 Prado... not yet anyway so I can't really comment on the that...

I'm sure it's rated at 2.5 tonne for a reason so it's your call if you go beyond their recommendations.

I personally would want to be under the tow rating...

If the maximum tow capacity is set at 2500 kg then that is what it is 2500kg, not 2700 kg. Experts have calculated the rating based on a variety of factors.

If you decide you want to tow more then knock yourself out at your own risk.

I wouldn't be in your shoes if something went wrong to find you were towing 200 kg more than the vehicle was rated for.

You need to use some common sense. It isn't appropriate to ask a forum to comment on whether towing more than the rated capacity is safe or not, is it.

It´s 2800 kg in every Europe model (manufacturer´s permit).

My towbar is said 3500 kg...

Will look at the manual and post my findings. I also have an 07 Nissan Pathfinder that is rated at 6,000 pounds and should be the safer option.

I am surprised by the tone of some forum members, what an agressive world we live in :roll: I thought that the purpose of these forums is to share ideas and seek advise from others that own the same car, where did it go wrong?

Unfortunately it's called 'Liability'. That sharing of opinions has gotten people in trouble in the past because some people can't see it as just that... an opinion.

I wouldn't say the responses were aggressive... just cautious

Interested to see if there is a difference in the tow capacities... if so, I wonder what makes it different?? Something mechanical or a bureaucrat somewhere :?
