  • Worth it? New Prado Owner

    Hey guys,

I am in the process of looking at a prado for recreational purposes. A little medium core off road, beach and daily get around. I have never driven a Prado.

I am looking at a 2000 mdl RV6, with a ARB bull bar, Winch, Rims, and everything else is pretty much standard. It has 200,000k's on the clock. Overall looks very well kept and fully serviced.

Help me out here, what is it worth? Are Prado's a good pick ?

    Of course they are

Have a look at http://www.redbook.com.au for the value of the car. Med off road with all that weight... will the 2700 engine struggle with power maybe?? Don't know, just putting it out there.

Oh, and please fill in your location in your profile.
    Cheers, Leon

It is a 3.4Lt so I should be ok.

I am thinking a 2 inch lift and some decent muddies will make a prado pretty capable off road?

Thanks for that..... Yeah my budget is 10 - 12k so hopefully I can get him at that.....

I have a 1993 Land Rover Discovery, I am hoping the Prado will be better and more reliable!

your budget of $10-$12 ks sounds close to the money,my rv6 auto with similar xtras plus safety pack and pwr windows 98 mod 220 kms and i'm struggling to get $10km as a trade on a new one. Great car for the money, not sure what life you could expect before major expense as at my 220 km no signs of things going wrong not even an oil leak.I think service history can be inportant.good luck

Mine has the 2" lift and aggressive AT's and it's goes everywhere I point it...
If you're going harder... a locker and I suspect it would be a case of watch out

              Greetings all!

Well I just wanted to let you know that I am now a official Prado owner! Just got back from picking up a 99 Prado GXL. Came with some nice bits, Snorkel, Tough Dog suspension, Dual batteries, ARB Bar, Aug 09 Rego and some almost new BFG AT's.

I am very pleased and for the k's (210,000) and the money I was wrapped! Negotiated it down to $10500, I am hoping that is worth it!

I must say it is a lovely car!

Thats great. sounds like a good price for a great sounding prado you wont need to spend much with all those mods it has already.

                  Cheers

Snaga, should be ok. He said its a V6 not the 2.7 although the 2.7 isnt too bad in the low down grunt department. Steve

As an owner of a 98 2.7, I am very happy with its performance. Its quicker than my mates 80 series cruiser. Has no problems off road. I havn't had the chance to test its towing tho, this may prove its undoing. But since I dont tow anything bigger than a normal trailer, I am very happy with performace. Anyway thats just my opinion.

                              hey mate. looks good.

i have an RV6 and when i got it was stock. i haven't done all the much too it, nothing really some BF all terrains, which are bigger than the stock ones.

and it's pretty handy off road.

i'm down at kariong and there are a few of us around here now, so we'll have to sort out a drive so you can come and show it off.
