Speedo Calibration

Does anybody know of a place in Brisbane that I can get my speedo claibrated. Got flashed by a speed camera but I was only about 5km/hr over a the limit on cruise control (I know I should be doing exactly the limit!) but the offence shows I was doing 113km/hr.

The car is running 265/75/16 tyres and I am assuming the larger tyre has something to do with it.

Any advice on a place I can go to get this done would be great.

I got done once and had a calibration test show my speedo was incorrect (but then calibrated) and they allowed me to get out of the fine when I challenged it.

After a bit of investigating the following information has been found out:

(N.B - This only applies to QLD)

My car is actually classed as un-roadworthy. The reason being that under QLD transport regulations the actual diameter of the tyre is only allowed to be changed a maximum of 15mm from manufacture's standards.

The normal tyre on the prado is 265/70/R16 and has a diameter of 778mm, however with the 265/75/R16 tyre the diameter is increased to 804mm.

The difference of 26mm places this outside of QLD Transport requirements. :cry:

RACQ are able to do a speedo check for you to determine how far out your speedo is for a cost of about $40.

You will also need to check with your insurance company if you are covered if you have an accident as due to the car being classed as un-roadworthy they do not have to pay up.

When I asked about the chances of getting out of the speeding fine I was advised that a person should know that larger tyres would effect the speedo and that the fine would still stand. Ignorance is not an excuse.

I guess now I will be going back to car dealer I brought the car off and the people who did the road worthy to see if they will pay for their mistake... don't like my chances but it is worth a shot!! :roll:

I have installed Yellow Box V5 with splice wiring (solder connection) on my Grande 120, tested and calibrated speedometer for bigger tyres. My full installation information is in this thread:
