Key coding for Immobiliser

Hi, I'm getting a couple of new keys cut for our 2001 GXL and they're the ones with the immobiliser chip in the black plastic part of the key (we have a separate remote for unlocking doors). Has anyone coded keys themselves or is it better to go to a dealer...bearing in mind the potential screw-up factor in a situation like this? :?

Fruitbat Check with Mr Minit and similar places. They can do keys with immobilisers provided you have one key already and they have the key stock. My Rodeo ute is similar and I picked up a second key for about 50% genuine price that way.

Hey these instructions worked for me. You may have to retry a couple of times before it will work
The system holds a maximum of 3 keys at any one time.
