Broken Axles in 90 series

Hi
Can any one shed any light on the axle recall for the 90 series from 96 to 99 was there an issue
or has any one had a axle break on them under any conditions .
as i have been checking out second hand Pardo of that age and have noticed on some sites a refrance to it.

Toyota should perform the required works free of charge whether it's second hand or not. They should be able to tell whether it's been done. Off memory this recall was around 5 years ago? I know when my parents got it done to the prado (which is now mine) we'd owned it for at least 5 years.

Have you heard of an axle being broken from towing a van or trailer or what caused the recall in the first place?

any toyota dealer australia wide
will replace LH and RH rear axles FREE OF CHARGE if the recall has not already been preformed
while getting it done though it is a good chance to replace rear bearings for just the cost of the parts if you are unsure of the vehicles history saves you alot on labour charges and work shop supplies

Got mine done in 2006, recall code was 6521D1
You can call The Toyota Customer support line 1800 643 242 and supply your vin to them and they can see if your car is part of the recall or if it's ever been done or not etc.
The shaft part number is 0400543360 same for either side

Toyota service usually put a sticker on the drivers door pillar [on the car body near hinge] when any recall repairs have been corrected
my prado has a silver sticker with lots of numbers etc for this axle recall,wifes corolla has a similar sticker for its relevant recall.
I assume all dealers would do the same

When mine was done they fitted the axle assemblies complete with new bearings. Sticker on frame of body forward of drivers door. This was done in mid 2006.
