  • Folding Middle Seats

    G'day everyone,

I am looking to see if anyone has modified their middle seats in a 90 Series Prado to fold over themselves similar to a Landcruiser.

I want to do this to hopefully be able to sleep in the back and fit longer items in there, because at the moment with the sliding back seats i can't do this.

Alternatively, if anyone has set out the back of their Prado as a camper that would also be good to know about.

    Any advise would be helpful.

    Thanks in advance!

I not quite sure on what you mean by "fold over themselves like the L/cruiser" but with the seat in my 98 RV6 which has a 1 piece back as opposed to the split fold as seen in some later 90 series, this seat back first folds flat onto the seat base then the whole seat can be fold upwards from front hinge to a position against the back of the front seats leaving the floor with a flatish base which i have slept on with mattress ok depending on your height [the kids have traveled in the 3rd row seats with the middle seats in this folded position and use to refer to it as the LIMO position. The seat can also slide forward and be locked in a position in the normal uprite position. Not sure how this differs from your model

I thought they did I had a look once and I had my beer goggles on so I gave up after folding the back section flat on the seat base , but where is the mechanism / latch release to fold the seat base so it folds behind the front seats ?

Pull it out! unless you have kids... I have done so and made up a floor extension similar to the outback ones to suit my drawers. comes to a couple of fingers away from the centre console gives about 1850mm of length from memory. Removing backseat also must shed about 50kgs that thing was heavy.

have a look here for ideas. I know outback do "seat in" and "seat out" floor extensions so you could make up either however the outback ones aren't available for our vehicles.

          Re: Folding Middle Seats

To fold the middle seats forwards:

Pull the lever on the side of the seats all the way back so the back folds flat down onto the seat. Don't let the whole seat mechanism slide forward, if it does this, push it back and try again.
Once the back of the seat is folded down flat, reach behind the seats and there will be a small loop made out of the same sort of material as seatbelts, pull that towards the rear of the car and the whole seat should flip forwards.

Both the lever and the loop are replicated on each side, so it doesn't matter which side you do it from and you don't need to do it from both sides at the same time to get it to fold forward.

I think that's how it goes off memory.

If you really get stuck reply here and I'll go down and confirm!
