  • Looking to buy '96 SWB Prado

    Hi guys,
    I'm new here.
I use to have an '88 soft top Bundera. Was an awesome little beast. Both on & off road.
Now i am currently car less and have found a SWB Prado for sale.
Is there anything that i should be looking out for on the '96 model?
I have read that the radiators need fixing up???
Is there anything else I should know?
The car is a 3TD '96 SWB with 150 000 KM its interstate so i need to ask as many questions as possible before i fly out to see it?

    Any help is greatly appreciated..

    Thanks

    Lou

Re: Looking to buy '96 SWB Prado

Hi you do realise this is a import from NZ or wherever . The SWB was never sold in Aus by Toyota. Not that anything is wrong with them but the Ks could be 100000ks out or more, no way to check it.

If the klms are genuine then its a good deal, how much are they asking?

Great to see more 90s shorties getting around,

        Zook.

Sounds like a fair bit of coin for a 96 model - I would sujest phoning your insurance company and see what they come up with on market value then see if you can come up with an agreed value on the dollar you pay for it

Re: Looking to buy '96 SWB Prado

You could get a 4 door Grande for that price, unless the higher price is simply because it's a 'rarer' SWB? If you do decide on buying it, definitely get it RACV (or equivalent depending on state) to do a pre-sale check on it and talk to the mechanic that checks it regarding the km and whether he thinks they're genuine. They'll have a pretty good idea of what sort of wear a 150xxx km car should have.
