98 tx winch info

hey guys. new to this forum so forgive me if this has already been covered.
ive just bought a 98 tx ltd. its got a standard bull bar and plastic type nudge bar. i would love to put a new bar on it and a winch but not sure how easy this is. i was wondering if there were others here with the same model who have put a winch on with or without a full winch bar like the ironman or arb?

any help would be much appreciated.

Ben, got your PM. Here is how I did mine with a standard bumper.




I did change to a synthetic rope in the end which had a smaller, neater fairlead. Then I made my own full bumpers - front and rear

now thats a very very nice install. sorry to be a pain but do you have a photo taken from further back. just interested to see how low the whole thing sits. was there much enginering work needed for the mounting brackets. thats my ideal setup if i could get it.

No work whatsoever. I'm sure that the whole thing is posted on here somewhere.

You take the bumper off, bolt the box on, cut the lower grille and shove it back on. Then wire in the winch.

Of course if you've a spare minute or two you could make a whole bumper like this

In my Ellerys manual it shows where a winch can be fitted, the pic is of a Warn branded low mount winch.
The base plate is under the winch and obviously bolts to the chassis rails
I suspect that it might have been a option in other countries, so might be worth while going that route. It all looked very neat, the fairlead mounted behind where it looks like the front rego plate is
diag is page 395 in EPT034 if you can access one

since were talking about winches im interested to know how many times each of us actually use them when out for a drive?

everytime?
1 in 5 trips?
very rarely?

im only interested in a normal drive in the bush or out hunting, not going hardcore and trying to get stuck or over a really tough piece of track.
if i had one i would use it every time i could but i dont drive to get stuck, well i try not to :wink: so have not really needed one. most of the time a good snatch gets me out.

Ben, I guess that the ground is a lot softer here in the UK. I used mine a lot. Especially as I hunt alone where getting a snatch isn't going to happen. On the blue SWB I had front and rear winches.
