Im hiring a caravan for the school holidays going Syd to Scotts Head, weight of van prob 16-1700 kg total. Looking at putting the tyre pressures up to 45psi and the adjustable tough dogs to setting 6 or 7(up from 4) are there any other things i need to do? Just doing tarmac stuff no offroad with the van. will be bringing back to normal settings once i off load the van at the campsite

For that kinda weight you'll need E-brakes.

Also, I'd be wanting to hook it up beforehand, just to test the way it sits and balances. So many fools drive with their rear springs compressed to the maximum... very dangerous.

It has mechanical overrides fitted, getting stabiliser bars fitted, the trial hookup last weekend didn't move it down at all (HD springs help
If i was to get a electronic brake controller at a later date are the fittings to the caravan generic? (total ignoramus on this, only ever used mechanical ovverrides)

electric brakes on hire vans usually run thru the trailer plug for convenience so all and sundry can hire them.
there is no prob running elec brake thru the trailer plug but the big thing is to ensure the car side is done properly using good quality parts and wire of suitable size for the job at hand

I've seen some long term vanners run separate electric brake connections but that limits them to only hooking up to their van/trailer
