  • Electronic Brake Controller mounting position

Just come back from towing a hired caravan, will in the future be looking at doing a lot more towing either with a camper trailer (off road) or a caravan (on road).
looking around my dash area i cant see any obvious locations to mount one. I saw in a mag a remote setup where only the controlling switch and adjuster knob is mounted on a pop out plate on the dash, at the moment this seems to be the way to go. however i don't like to be limited in my options. Does any body have any suggestions on a alternative mounting position?

    Regards

G'day gphcald, i have a prodigy electric brake controller mounted were the ashtray goes, i just removed the ashtray and bracket & fitted the mounting sleeve for the Tekonsia Prodigy so you can remove the controller when not required.

There you go Tony, all you have to do is remove the ashtray & its mounting plate two screws & re-use the same screw holes to mount your controller plastic holder, when wiring up the harness just leave enough slack to pull out a good 6 inches so you can remove the controller when not req'd.

          g'day gphcald,
I recently had a Redarc brake controller installed ,we placed it just under the steering wheel, it is easily reached if i need to but not in the road of anything.Someone with long legs might bump it getting in and out,in this position but it is only a small box,so it's hard to say.Works for me.
          Cheers John.

The other good place is on console in front of the Gear Stick. There is a thread on this with a photo of Piggy's vehicle. There is a problem with putting it on the
Dash behind the steering wheel on the left hand side. This is to do with the Air Bag Deploment mechanisim.

I think where the ashtray goes is a popular option as I've seen a few there, mine is there also.
Pretty easy place to install it to and easy to get to when in use I find.

Just have to find somewhere else to throw the loose change is all.
