  • KZJ95R Purchased

    Hello All,
Being new to 4x4, I've been reading pradopoint with interest over the last few weeks and, now that I've just purchased a 2002 (August release) KZJ95R, I've decided to register and see what help I can get - and (hopefully) eventually offer.
My first question though is of course based on what everyone thinks of my purchase? - I paid $21750.00, the vehicle is white, base model RV with a tow bar and cargo barrier and has 199000 on the clock. Good all-round condition. The purchase was from a Toyota dealer and included the full 200k service - which of course I hope they've done thoroughly and properly as they said they would.
Secondly, in terms of that 200k service - are there any issues which typically arise at that mileage which I should expect them to report back on and which may cost me more to fix?
I collect the vehicle tomorrow, then it's time to source a bullbar and a few other extras - any suggestions?
    Thanks

does 200k full warranty mean you will have full warranty up to 3999k on the clock?

I am curious if your car has dual airbags? cruise control? power windows? power mirrors? sunroof? rear air condition? - because I have a RV too but 1997 3.4.

I paid only $7,500 for my car plus 5 original 16"RIM and wheel because the car was upgraded with bigger 265/70/16 tyres.
Also my car was updated with a bullbar (without winch), heavy duty suspension, tow bar, tinted windows. But mine was 251k on the clock, and it did not come with airbags, power windows, power mirrors, sunroof or rear air con.
Of course, with my price, there is no way to get warranty from the private seller.

Anyway, I don't think that the Prado will have any major issue with you from 200k - 300k if you service it regularly.

The first think to do with your car should be somethings:
    - change oil
    - change oil filter
    - change air filter

if the dealer said that they just change it, tell them to show you the evidence before picking up the car.

    Good luck with the car.
Enjoy it if you decided to buy it. A little expensive or cheap does nothing at all. The most important thing is that you love it

Hmmm... That seems about the going rate for Diesel 90's. When I was buying, KZJ95r's were getting up around the price bracket of early/hi-k GRJ120r's.

$7500 is a steal for an RV, nice one!

Well done with the purchase. Just an OT question about your username - are you moving to the NT soon, or already there?

I am not sure it was a good price or not 4 months ago, but I just love the color and the shape of this car when I saw it first time. If it is another color, I did buy another Pajero at that time : LOL

After some thousands kms, I still feel very happy with the big rat

            Re: KZJ95R Purchased

Thanks for the comments so far. I have just received a report from the RAA and they have given this vehicle the 'green light', but have recommended a few 'minor' issues be looked at, such as oil seepage in certain areas. The dealer has agreed to look into this and correct where necessary. Anyway, I'm happy now to pay the balance and collect the vehicle tomorrow.
We are moving to the NT early next year and plan to go the 'long way round', via Perth! We recently returned from a month-long trip there - drove straight up from Adelaide to Darwin in our Subaru Forester - and loved it - what an amazing place! Now we'll try it out in the Prado - should be a lot more interesting!

It doesn't have dual airbags, only driver-side. I believe it has cruise control, although I haven't checked. It does have power windows and mirrors, but only front aircon. No sunroof.

There is no more warranty on the vehicle, the 200k service is what i was referring to.

That's good to know. Thanks for the details.

You should check everything works well before taking the car to your house. It is better you spend 2 hours there to check everything, run on the road to check cruise control (in many case, they have failed cruise control which will not keep stable acceleration), rather than you get home and find out new issues. It will cost you much more time and more headache if you don't check the car carefully but later, even if the dealer promises to fix anything, but done it first.

                Enjoy your new gear

Hi goingtont. You won't regret buying the KZJ95R. A great bus. Mine now 200,000 km and going strong. Small niggles like rear axle seals/brakes and the clutch release brg has squeaked since I brought it - but what a great vehicle. Enjoy!.

                    Re: KZJ95R Purchased

I would love to say it was a great buy at $21750.00 but having brought my car in June this year at $14,500 for a GXL 2002 model petrol with 189,000 km's, which a few months later they dropped down to $13,000-14,000, I also looked around for a diesel at $17,000 to $19,500 at the time but funds wouldnt allow me to buy ( i dont regret it either).
With that kind of money you could of brought a GXL or even a grand in the last few months. I know of 2 dealers that was selling the grand for under $20,000 and the GXl at $17,500.
Also I hope your insurance company will insure it fully as i know with GIO they will only cover what their maxium says they can, just because a dealer sell's it at that price dosnt mean it will be insure for it!!! I had to move over to Nrma just to cover mine for extra accessories that GIO wouldnt as it went over the max.

Im sure you'll look after your new Prado & congrats!!
