Crooza, you will feel the coverter unlock and the revs will go up, bit like another gear, if you boot it hard enough it will kick back from o/d. this will be extremely noticeable (eg same as pushing the o/d button out manually), revs will jump by approx 1000rpm when coming out of o/d. My converter locks up at 85k. If you accelerate gently enough to get in in o/d before you get to say 75k then slowly build your speed up and (i think the V6 the same as diesel I forget) when you get to approx 80/85k watch the tacho and you will see and feel it fall in revs approx 400rpm. The 400 rpm your talking about is probably just throttle positioning which if it was a manual you would be jerking the vehicle by being on and off the throttle where as been auto its different. BTW - From what I've read about TC's in autos, that sounds like a release. If this particular box has a lock, it should be locked whilst cruising flat. When that small incline or throttle increase occurs, the TC may release so the engine-side can spin faster, which generates more torque to spin the trans-side. If you increase the throttle/incline further, it'll drop gear to provide real power.
Are you talking about when you are cruising along the highway and you take your food off of the accellerator the RPM drops by just over 200 RPM.
That is what mine does, at 100kph i'm doing 2250 RPM, take my foot off the accellerator and RPM drop to 2000RPM, but if I am doing the same speed and get a slight incline and accellerate a bit more RPM rise by around 400 RPM, accellerate a bit more and then it kicks down into 3rd.
Face lift 150 Prado V6 auto. No mods yet

Not what I'm talking about, but I think that happens.

Yes, there's an increase of about 400 rpm, which would be the TC unlocking as I explained above (stays in 4th gear, but engine runs faster to generate torque for the trans). If you let off a little it'll drop back to ~2200 rpm and lock up again. If you throttle harder, the trans drops a gear and RPMs climb to ~3000+ rpm.
