  • Snorkel Time

I dropped into this hole last weekend & i sharted myself.
Had only been through the same hole a few weeks earlier, but there was a bit more water in it this time.
Time to bite the bullet & fit a Snorkel i think. Was lucky to get away with it this time.

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

    Jeez you were lucky there!!!

This effort of mine ended up with me swallowing a little gulp of water...

Where was this ? Sydney and NSW has seen ALOT of water around at the moment so some usually dryish areas could give people a surprise . I think the normally low waters around the upper blue mountains would be flowing at the moment ..

ps i like the airtec /tjm snorkels .

Don't think there is really that much difference between snorkels. Just comes down to availability, price and personal preference on looks. I fitted my Safari Snorkel myself and have since put it through a few water holes and the heavy recent rains ... does what it's meant to do!

Hi, When you install your snorkle or have someone install it for you make sure you make checking the joins a regular practice. It takes a bit of work but I had to remove the plastic guard liner the other day only to find the snorkle joints had become loose and were sucking in air. On one of my joints there was only a piece of foam rubber and it wasn't even in the joint where it was suppost to be. Just on the outside of the joint.

If some one installs it for you make sure your watching them as they do it.

If I had hit that water hole I would probably still be there as a pot hole filler.

I would not be using that installer again fo any reason, because it is recommended that all joins are to have a bead of silicon inside to prevent any chance of the snorkel leaking at any join, as for the piece of foam rubber, I have never seen that in any snorkel kit I have fitted. It is also recommended to have the dirt catcher (under the air box) sealed at the grommet under it, as this is a place that water can be sucked in, especially on a diesel.

Agreed, back in the day when I used to fit these things, we always ran sikaflex around every join, and tested for leaks after fitting and about 1,000km later.

This was at Upper Colo N/W of Sydney. There are some good little fire trails up there :-)

                        Re: Snorkel Time

On my diesel 90 I had them remove the baffles in the guard and install a flexy pipe from the snorkel to the air box. All sealled with black window urethane.

Just a little more noise now with induction noise (because the baffles are gone).

Has anyone checked the connection between the MAF and airbox?
Noticed mine was able to be wobbled around a little bit the other day, haven't had a chance to see if it actually sucks in air through the join.
