  • Anyone thoughts on servicing?

Lets see if i can get some "healthy debate" going here in the 90s section....
I had the prado serviced yeterday, to cut a long story short there had been some confusion over servicing from the previous owner becasue they serviced by the month timeline, not kms. The mechanic says the 160,000 service has been missed, which is a fairly major one. He says it needs to be done as there is some important stuff. Now, do i get him to do it inthe next few weeks, and that way he wont have to do what he has just done. OR do i wait a while until it needs another service? I mean there is nthing "wrong" with it but who knows....

Im thinking i should just get it done sooner rather than later, just thinking about the account balance!

    Anyone got any thoughts?

How long have you had it Slug? Did it get it's 120K and 140K service??
I missed my 120,000 klm service thinking my warranty service would cover it but it turns out it no where near covers the full service schedule.

I'm now due for my 130,000 klm warranty service and they have agreed to do both the warranty service ($195.00) and the missed 120,000klm service ($650.00) in the one hit for only the cost of the full service.

If yours gets some off road use then I'd do the full service sooner rather than later... 10,000klms late and I can notice it's not starting as easily, generally sounds tired.
    Cheers, Leon

      Hey Snaga,
the previous owner had it serviced pretty regularly and pretty much the same mob,i was happy with that!
the first service i had done was the 140,000 when the vehicle was 157,920, as it was thenext one in the book, althought the vehicle was 147 thou when it had its 135,000 logbook service, does that make sense?
Yesterdays service was at 164,265 km, and was the 165,000 logbook service. The mechanic recomended i get the 160,000 logbook service done as its reasnobly major.

Ive just noticed looking through the book that the timing belt wont have been done at the 150,000, that should be looked at i suppose, im just trying to avoid another expense so soon.

I hear what you're saying, but a small expense now to avoid a major expense later

          Hey Slug,
Make sure you get that belt done or services will look cheap!!
I still can't work out how it was getting serviced by the months in the book. If any thing it should have less kms on odometer than your book is up to?? Lets fire up this 90s forum hey (the 120s are havin all the talk 8) )

I have to fess up, after you sad that i checked again. Two entries had the kms crossed out and had been done by month apparently, but the rest, well they started off being very close to the kms, but towards the end were 5000 to 10000 off, so who knows.

Anywas, it all adds up to probably needing to be done, the timing belt being in issue.

            Thanks for the input guys.

I am purchasing a 1998 2 Door 3.4L this week, the car has 121,000 KM on the clock, should I change the timing belt as a precaution? I think I will wait on the clutch to lower the overall expense and given the fact that if it blows, it will not damage the engine given that it is localized.....

              Cheers.
