Re: For how long will you stay with your prado?

Bought mine just under a year ago, had all the important mods put on, done about 14000 kms, and now ready for something else............ :|

It's heaps better than my last 4be (Grand Vitara) but I'd like to go harder.

Haha, yes they're very curvey and won't last much longer, but after 9 years of boring city driving by the previous owner, I reckon the Prado loves what it's been put through recently.

Re: For how long will you stay with your prado?

Had ours for three and a half years now, and have just spent the last few weeks looking to upgrade it. After driving everything on the market I have decided to keep it for another 3 years. The new 150s are beautiful to drive but for the price I will keep mine for another 3 years and then see whats on the market. At this stage the vehicles on the low side of 60k sees nothing worth trading it on.

Re: For how long will you stay with your prado?

              Hello all.
New here but have been around 90 sites for a long time.
My 97 SWB 90 with the 1KZTE has just clicked over 262k miles thats 420k kilometres.
Still doesn't use any oil between 6000 mile services, the front diff just blew up big style though, Passenger oil seal failed and let the lube juice out, and the inside bearing on the pinion melted. Pinion bent badly, new 4.100 diff out of a Jap import 95 was sourced and I am just waiting for the new seals and clips to come so I can stick them in before I fit the diff.
I think this could be a common occurance around now, just make sure you keep your trans oil levels topped up and fresh.
Hopefully I can get a lot more miles out of my old wagon yet.

Re: For how long will you stay with your prado?

I got my 90 series Prado VX back in 2002 as a near-new but 2nd-hand vehicle, it was 10 months old then. It had 23K on it then and only has around 85K on it now so will be keeping it for a few years yet. It's only just about to have it's 2nd set of tyres put on, she hasn't had a very hard life so far  . I'd love to get a newer one but can't afford it and really can't justify it when this one is so good still.

Had my 2001 VX for a few years then reluctantly sold it end of last year. Drove around in a 1kzte toyota surf but missed the prado so much.
Sold that surf and now so happy to be back in a prado.

My parents bought a 2000 TD gxl auto from the factory, and moved back to canada in 2006. And that's when I bought it off them. It now has 155000km. And it still starts first time everytime. I have had a few issues, ie ring and pinion front and rear. I have since put in lockers and havn't had a problem. Now if I really load the front end with the front locker engaged, I'll blow a CV, which is easy to replace and a lot cheaper then ring and pinion. But I have now learnt this limitation and now will drive to avoid this failure.

My prado is pretty modded. I only really need to do the exhaust, chip and winch(need a new bar for that). So I don't plan on selling it any time soon. For the people who are new and plan on keeping there prado for sometime. I would strongly advise getting some sliders, and a rear locker. You'll be able to take things much slower, which will decrease the damage to your pride and joy.

                    Thanks

                    Andy
                    I had mental issues when I owned a Discovery.......But it's sorted now!

Definitely agree with that. If you're doing tracks that require several attempts, lifting wheels, speed or bouncing accross rocks, than lockers are needed or you're going to end up with damage. This goes for any 4x4, but even more so with IFS or small diffs.

Hey all. I bought my 99 GXL in 2005 with 88k on the clock and started to build. Spent a lot of time up in the high country and loved every minute with no trouble whatsoever. Moved to QLD in 06 and the drama's began. New A/C unit, 2 power steering pumps and two rear diffs ( the second of each was due to a dodgy mechanic), new clutch (second for vehicle), steering rack ends, centrivical clutch in fan and a few other minor things. But I gotta tell ya, I wouldn't trade it for the world. It's now got 162k on the clock and I love nothing more than exploring in the Prado. Off to the cape in late July to have a bit more fun. Ya just can't beat a Prado.

Prado: It's French for "Nissan recovery vehicle"!!!

                          Cheers.

We'll be with our 95 series as long as it will have us...2001 GXL Petrol bought new and done about 145K. Its never missed a beat. Tows the boat and does a bit of sand. Reasonably thirsty when towing but always been a good drive with hopefully many more years to come, just wish the missus was a bit more spatially aware (shes backed into two cars...hence the reversing camera!, scraped one side down the front gate/fence and around a bollard at a shopping centre...am on a first name basis at the Crash Repairers!!!)

Bought our TD early 2001, now has only 173,000k's on it.
Damn thing has been nothing but trouble. At around 80,000k's the dash indicator light for Drive went out, then came back on a year later....then a couple of months ago the bloody left tail light globe blew.
Cost so much I reckon we'll have to keep it now.

Gee, first a dash light now a brake light. If only you'd bought a disco you wouldn't have had so much trouble
