  • Keeping sub tank full?

Hi, We are contemplating purchasing a 2001 3.0l Diesel Prado, which has been lovingly cared for. Our question is this -
Should we ensure that the sub tank is never completely emptied. If not, why not?
Also does anyone know where a manual and service book can be purchased?
    Thanks.

    Re: Keeping sub tank full?

Hi, Good choice on the 90, love em. You wont have a choice in using the sub tank as if you have little fuel in the sub tank the transfer fuel pump over a period of time will transfer fuel from the main to the sub to promote the use of the sub tank to keep the pump and bits and pieces in regular use. In my diesel 90 i always fill up both tanks (need to take out a bank loan these days) and run on the sub tank first until the needle is just off empty. Then i switch over and use the main tank. By the time the low fuel light comes on, the sub tank is back up to around the quarter mark. The manual goes into a bit of detail about this. Let me know if you need any other info.

    Cheers

      Hi mapleduo,
Some commonly used service manuals are Haynes, Gregory's and Max Ellery.

I have both the Haynes and the Gregory's, and can say they both have the same content (words, pics, tips, etc) with different layouts.

I prefer the Haynes layout, but its 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other.

You might also consider the diesel supplementary manual to go along with it

Thanks for your replies. Very helpful info for us. Today we purchased a 90 series and will take delivery next week, so I'm sure we'll have more questions.
        Thanks guys,
        Ann
