  • Should I keep the "boom bottle" when installing a snorkel?

If any of you have installed a snorkel on your LC90, are are thinking about it, you will come across what is know as the "boom bottle".

The boom bottle is apparently an intake resonator, which you have to modify to fit a safari style snorkel.

What would be the consequence of removing the "boom bottle" entirely?

I'm talking about running a single pipe between the bottom of the snorkel and the air box (where the air filter is located).

What are your thoughts? Is the "boom bottle" needed or not?

      No.
By not removing it you will leave a hole that will suck water into your motor on a water crossing.
Edit: the hole might not be present on your motor.

It has to be cut to suit the hose to be adapted. Mine never leaked well not once I sealed it up properly after the so called professionals I paid over $300 to have it fitted. Click image for larger version

That little metal sleeve you see in the picture I believe came in the kit from safari ?? Very piss poor effort on safaris behalf for that to be good enough to be a joiner. I made one up so at least an inch or more went into the snorkel Flexi hose the other end into that pipe which is part of the original air intake. The pipe you see dangling down and not connected was the effort of the so called professionals. I wondered what the bloody rattle was on my way home from having it fitted. I ended up pulling the whole thing apart and redoing myself including putting silastic on all the joins some thing the fitters didn't bother to do or remove the metal filings or paint around the bare metal hole. Bodgy pricks
