  • Rock slider mounts (90s)

    Heya,

Im looking into getting some sliders made with the help of a mate. But what I'm having trouble with is the mounting on the passenger side rear. I have a bodylift which helps, but there is literally no gap between the fuel tank and the chassis and also the fuel lines run up the inside of the chassis on that side.

Can anyone help out at all?

just a thought joel, why dont you get some 1/2 plate about 100mm wide and what ever the chassis rail height is cut the plate to that length, drill and tap 1/2 inch holes to suit how you want to mount the slider up in the rear passenger, weld it to the chassis rail, i have seen some companies weld plates onto the chassis to mount there sliders, just a thoughtyou wont need to fully weld them just up the sides. cheers samo
had an 03 gx 120 with some gear now got a 2013 bt 50 GT auto some ARB gear.

Here is a pic of my rear mount (thanks to chippy for the idea ), there is a strap thats made of the same 8mm thick steel that runs behind the chassis rail. The strap has two nuts welded inside it (didnt have a tap on hand to tap it) and then cut the mounting bolts down so they dont protrude much. Its still a pain to fit but it does work and meant no drilling to the vehicle.

I wanted to try and avoid welding to the chassis on the prado. You can't have vertical welds on the chassis, engineer won't pass it, but yeah its my last resort to weld some mounting plates to the chassis, to bolt sliders onto.

THanks VL400. How did you go with the limited space between the fueltank and inside of chassis rail (then the fuel lines) The gap would be lucky to be about 5mm on mine. Also do you have a pic from the underside, while its mounted, for me to see. would help heaps.

        Thanks fellas.

          Re: Rock slider mounts (90s)

          G'day all....

Thought I would raise this thread again... especially seeing as I just got myself stuck this weekend with the same issue as jcas24.

Would be keen to see how you guys went with your mount for the rear passenger side near the fuel tank... a photo showing it mounted would be ideal (... if not too much trouble).

          Thanks heaps!

          Cheers

Found a photo from a 90series forum on yahoo....

the link and I've atatched the photo as well.
            http://groups.yahoo.com/group/90series/ ... 20&dir=asc

They've used a u-bolt to mount it on... pretty simple, but when I looked there was no way I could get anything between the tank and the chassis.

            Cheers

Sorry missed your question Jcas24. Will get some better pics but this is how they are mounted..

And behind is a 8mm strap with thread at each end for the bolts to go into, no room for nuts and cant get a spanner in there anyway...

                Re: Rock slider mounts (90s)

This is how I sorted mine. By utilising the "C" clamp idea, there is not a great deal of room required. The sill protector is high tensile 50 x 50 x 5 box section and is more than capable of supporting the trucks' weight. Some think that this system is not as strong as bolting through and may be subject to moving (sliding along the chassis rails) but I also run the same set up on my "lux rockcrawler and have never had an issue with that (and trust me, I lay into the side bars a massive amount )

                  Hey VL400

we wouldn't have happened to produce a couple extra clamps?
