  • I'm pretty certain Williade had boot cracking/leaking issues straight after his OME lift (Med rear, HD front). Mine is medium OME both ends, and I've never had issues with boots (have broken two CV joints though, most likely from front locker).

Yeah, the outer seal of the inner CV boots where leaking very badly after the lift went it.

At glen_ep's suggestion I removed the outer boot clamps and replaced them with stainless steel hose clamps which stopped the leaking. In theory, hose clamps would throw out the balance of the drive shafts but I never noticed any vibes or had other adverse effects.

Both of my inner boots cracked and split, they were probably original (225,000km since 1999) and the outers were starting to crack but not leak. Mine were leaking mainly from the inner seal of the inner boot, but since the 30mm diff drop my cv's look like they are on less of an angle then yours and they stopped leaking from the inner but then they split open which is why I changed them.
the worst part is the grease lands on the exhaust and it stinks.

I am impressed. Now if only you could mod the wheel arches to fit 35's

Thanks fellas, removing the front sway bar makes a huge difference and probably the upper arms as well.

35's? hmm, I could, and I'd start with the wide flares from overseas, but that, plus professional cutting will be quite expensive... I'd rather start over with a solid axle vehicle.

                • I've removed my front sway bar before but found it to be a real pig to drive, hated it! I extend the rear links and I still get full flex in the rear with it in.

Haha, the first time I removed the front sway bar it felt dangerous!! A couple things have changed since then (wide offset rims, upper arms) which may have helped make it feel more stable. It still handles different though, and can make a difference during emergency maneuvers, so I reconnect it for normal driving and touring.

                          • Hey trimardito,
                            Thanks for your feedback!
Sorry that photo wasn't mine, so I don't have a high res version of it
Have a look at my build up thread below, lots of details there. Keep in mind that when that photo was taken, my front sway bar was disconnected. Disconnecting the front sway bar can increase front articulation significantly.

                            • I thought you wouldve disconnected the sway bar, still impressive, hadn't seen a prado front end flexing like that, sway bar disconnected or not. Congrats! awesome build.

It is indeed an awesome build.
Glen has one of the Toughest 90's i've seen. I have flex envy, but i have height restrictions at home, so i can't go any higher:-(

........Is is wrong to want to raise my Garage Roof to accomodate a bigger lift?........

                                Regards, Jason.
