  • going crazy, can't decide

    here are my options.

4rib atz 285/70r17 like but thinking to big worried about economy
4rib atz 265/70r17 have seen a few trucks with them on and they look a bit tame, to narrow looking but not sure if my 9 inch rims will change the look of them but have good noise level reviews

bfg km2 285/70r17 like but thinking to big worried about economy and know the are currently b/o
bfg km2 265/70r17 look absolutely hot, but worried about them being noisy and i know i won't use them to their off road potential.

can anyone compare noise and handling levels between these tyres for me ??? i'd love the bfg but i'm scared of having a bumpy noisy grande.

going to buy this week coming along with a full set of 5rib 265/70r17's for dads 120 series.

      Re: going crazy, can't decide

If you can't decide yet, hold off on the purchase.
Are you still looking at the suspension mods? Are the suspension mods JUST to get larger tyres on, or do you want better offroad ability than the standard 2" Prados?
Where will the Prado be going on weekends AND weekdays?
Is this purely about looks & economy or do you have friends with big wheels to keep up with? (If yes, how big?) (If bigger, are you competitive?)

PS: I have slightly noisey and sloppy tyres but it's never bothered us. I love their offroad abilitiy and definitely make use of them!

        Re: going crazy, can't decide

I'm not competitive, I'm not really interested in trashing my car, not planning on any more mods to the front end, pretty happy with it;s offroad ability already but seems the rear is easy to get working so i will do something more to that when my shocks ware out. i want something that looks the part but is not going to bother me when i need to drive an hour to brisbane. I don't like getting stuck off road and i am always alot happier when it is flex or something else rather than traction letting me down so i have always run muddies on previous rigs. i really just need to hear some reliable info on these km2's about their road noise and handling compared to an atz 4rib. there is a white rig on here with atz/s that look great but i think they might be a 285

i have noticed the 265/75r16 atz's look tiny and narrow yet the same size in the mtz's look great which is why i am thinking km2's might be the go because being a muddy they will look beefier. I'm not sure if i am keen on the fuel consumption loss that a 285 will bring.

mine has 17's so i talking the 17 inch sizes but obviously when comparing to a 90 series i can only compare to the 16 inch sizes.

looks like they don't do a 265/70r17 in the km2's anyways.

can anyone give me an idea of how much their fuel economy/power changed between 265's and 285's ??
