  • Cooper AT

An interesting update to my recent post about wheel alignment problems with Cooper AT. Well I dropped the Prado in top Toyota for a service, They offered a wheel alignment as an add on. Explained the problem.

Picked it up, sorry didn't do the wheel alignment as the tyres are the root cause of the problem and it can't be fixed through wheel alignment.

Wel I guess I'll give the Cooper office a call to see what they have to say.

      Cooper Tyres

Rang Cooper Tyres 1800 number. They gave me the number of a local dealer.

By the time I rang the dealer, Cooper Tyures had contacted them about the problem. I was amazed when they agreed to fix the problem no more questions. Now thats customer service.

The dealer is confident he can fix the alignment problem. I'll post the results next week.

I'm buying another set of Coopers just for the customer service support!

        Cooper Tyre Update

Got the local Cooper dealer to attempt the wheel alignment fix. Well they forgot to tell the idiot missing from his village that he needed to add 1 percent positive caster to the left side to fix it. He tells me it is all in spec (Toyota Prado spec) and even tries a tyre rotation! Of course it was still the same.

Contacted Cooper Brisbane who advised what should have happened, contacted the dealer to sort it out. They were even willing to replace the tyres! Now that's customer backup. Seems the dealer that fitted them should have known the adjustment and done it on purchase. Seems the ATRs are renowned for alignment problems.

Taking it back for another alignment, hopefully correctly done. I'll let you all know the outcome.

Well a bit of a follow up from my first mention of the on going Cooper/alignment problem.

The Coopers got the a!@# a few weeks ago when I lost 2 in one day that were unrepairable (including a rock through the centre of the tread) and all had reached the limit of their tread wear after 60,000 km.

Fitted Goodyear Wrangler ATR light truck construction. The left drift problem was still there. Got Toyota to have a look during the last service to find the village idiot at the Cooper dealer had adjusted (using advice from Cooper rep in Brisbane) the toe in beyond its threshold

It was returned to factory spec.

No more off set steering wheel
            No more left drift

            No more Coopers for me.
