In order to put MT tyres through their paces (without being scared of punctures) they really need to be LT construction. I would have thought all M/T tyres are LT anyway.

I've done some searching and can only find a couple AT tyres in the size you're after, no MT treads. I think you're going to have to join everyone else with the 70 profile :-/

BTW; Larger tyres don't just help with clearance - through personal experience I've also noticed they climb obstacles easier. I had never considered why, but I guess if you imagine rolling a ball towards a staircase, a tennis ball will just bounce back, whilst a larger ball may go up and over. The larger the better.

last update, the deal with MTZ 4 rib did not get through. I just got another deal with set of BFG KM2 done 7000km on a Hilux, the bloke's wife could not stand with the noise of the tyre.

They look good now on my rig, but yeah, the 4x4 music from the tyres are really special now LOL.

Hi there light5light, was curious as to how noisy do you really mean ?? Funny how we hear different things. Was speaking to a bloke the other day about his bf's and he said they were fairly quit and really no noiser then his BF A/T's, now I didnt know the bloke so could be talking out his rear OR he is correct, and maybe different vehicles will give different road noise then others ?? I dont mind a bit of tyre noise and to be honest is expected especially with a mud tyre but not to the extreme its going to drive me nuts on a long run ????? Cheers Steve

          Hi Steve,

I just got the tyres this afternoon fit up to my rig. Just done about 10km with it in local drive.

Please kindly notice that my rig is RV 97 which should be considered nosier than others like GXL or Grande or higher series.

Also, the tyres were used with about 7000K on it (just small number though).

I got a brand new set of BFG AT 285/75/16 on my rig 3 months ago with about 1,000Km (then sold out). And here is what i can feel:

          - BFG AT working very quite and smooth on the road, just as my Cooper LT 265/70/16 before, and is quite as my original tyres for prado 215/70/16.

          - BFG KM2 is much noisier than BFG AT. I am sure if you are not a 4WD lovers, you will not want to stay in my car now
          - if I don't turn on the music to kill the noise from the road.

I haven't done highway with it, so no feedback now, will tell you more.

However, the noise like that give you more aggressive feeling from the road to your ears and your hands, of course the tyres give me much better handling feeling going around corner and straight, IMO, I will keep it and will not go back to AT if I want to use my rig with off-road.

Also you can ask Glen_ep, his BFG MK2 was used for long time, and he has good experience with MT tyres.

PS: I now really curious why your friend can get MT same noise as AT (with BFG - as i haven't experienced others) in his car. Even with different cars, it will have same affects on the car.

When I changed the tyres at the shop, the bloke - boss of the shop - told me that MT will create much more noise and confirm if I really want it. LOL

                  You are very welcome mate.

Frankly, I spent many hours watching off-road trips on youtube. My main reasons getting MT were:

                  - Will not spending a lot of time on daily driving along the highway. We will use our another SUV for long trip some times.
                  - Will not tow the caravan many times in a year (by the way, my caravan has 4 wheels with electric brake).
                  - Will not going on sand many times/year ( I personally watched many big MT tyres running on sand when I came to TAS in 2010 and to Nelson Bay last Easter, they were all perfect)
                  - Will go with our bros in the forum to many areas around Sydney, which suppose to get wet/muddy/rocky conditions almost all times.

PS: Yesterday, one of my customer - a serious 4wder - shown up his new rig: a 2 doors Maverick with off-road steel wheel and 325 /.../... Mud tyres. Just really huge ones. Love the look but definitely will not get it for my rig LOL
