  • Another A/T Tyre Question / Recommendation

It's time to replace the tyres on my Prado.
Currently it is fitted with Cooper ATRs in 265/70 x 16 and they seem to have done a good job from what I can tell (first fourby and only done 40k in it). Most of driving is going to and from work once a week, which is a 550km trip each way. The last 70km of the trip is dirt road, the rest is all highway. The dirt road is normally in good nick, but has lots of clay and can get a bit slushy after rain. Those of you familiar with the Broken Hill area will know the type of surface I'm talking about.

I have been looking around at Yokohama, Toyo and Coopers but all I end up doing is confusing myself! Help me decide! Found these on ebay, any input would be appreciated.

The Cooper AT3's are getting a good rap from most that have used them.

to add more confusion i had the bridgey 694s on the 120 for a while, i got 65k out of them, they were the passenger version, great for what i did at the time, good in the sand and in the dirt, hung on well on the blacktop especially in the wet, next i wanted something more aggressive so i went for the cooper st, i have done 65 k on them great in the sand, mud and dirt, on the black they are good, not as good as the 694s but thats the trade off for a more aggressive tyre, they are getting down ie about 5mm left, next purchase im going for the st maxx, im happy with the coopers they have done me well for what i have done. thats my 2 cents. cheers samo

Ended up buying Maxxis 751s locally. So far so good, and a lot quieter than the old ATRs.
