  • NEW WHEEL AND TYRE PACKAGE 16" or 17" ?????

    hi pp

am looking at new set of wheels for my 2002 prado was staying with 16 's but as i need a new set of tyres also and see 17" s as standard on newer models was wondering to put 17" on not sure of major differences in performance on and off road ....

    any info would be great..

The only advantages of larger rims are the street appeal and perhaps some slightly better performance/cornering on road.

They are at a very clear disadvantage offroad (less rubber, less ballooning, less grip), cost more, and there are less choices of AT/MT terrains available.

I've got a friend with a 7yr old 4wd fitted with 17 inch rims. He can get (and will) 5 new 16 inch rims + Mickey Thompson MTZ's for the same price as just buying 5 of the new tyres to suit his 17 inch rims.
