  • Latest opinions on tyres fro a 98 Grande

Hi All, Just wondering what everyones current opinions are on tyres to suit 90% road use, 10% sand use. So im looking at a HT or AT tyre, mainly sussing out what brands you have all been using and your thoughts. Been seeing a lot of promotion on tv for new cooper tyres. Im running standard 265x70 R16. All comments/opinions appreciated.

hey brooker a few brands come to mind, bridgestone 694 http://www.bridgestone.com.au/tyres/treads/d694.aspx, as well as mickey thompson ATZ 5 rib http://www.mickeythompsontires.com.a...page=ATZ-5-rib and cooper AT3 http://www.coopertires.com.au/index....res&tyre_id=14, they are all good tyres, prices very, and so do opinions, i have had a set of the bridgestone 694s and they were a good tyre, handled very well on the road and sand, they were good in gravel and ok in the slop. cheers samo

Thanks for your reply samo. Ive been and looked at a few of these today. no MT ATZ in the 70, only in 75's. The Cooper AT3 were about $350ea and the Bridgestone 697 AT (a newer model tyre the bloke told me...rated as LT (light truck) is abou $265ea. I do a bit of driving on the beach at Blacksmiths which has supersoft sand and was wondering about the LT rated tyres as they will have thicker tyre walls and wont belly out Im thinking?? Leaning toward these for the price at this point...the AT3 is out of my price range.

What did you end up with brooker? Tyres are like monthly bills "everyone has one" I'm a Cooper bloke myself, had the others and most do the job OK. Ya get what you pay for in the long run and I've used nothing but LT ATR Coopers for the past 14 years and never had 1 issue the whole time. Sure you'll get someone saying they blew one of theirs up and in a blink of an eye the entire brand is useless. "couldn't we say that about nearly everything" The LT's have a harder sidewall and don't belly out as much as a conventional passenger tyre but I'm a frequent beach camper and it's never been an issue. But you've said 90% road and 10% sand, so is it that much of an issue for a far stronger tyre? Happy shopping, as long as your happy with your choice.
