I always get asked about that ops:

    Here's why....

I usually carry a bit of heavy gear in the back with no weight over the front end... hence the different spring ratings.
I spoke to my mechanic last week about going HD's in the front as well as I initially thought it'd be a rough ride but it's not so when I get around to it I'll go HD's in the front as well.

Well, I got a set of 265/75/16 Cooper STs fitted. They fit no probs (no so far anyway) with standard suspension.

I contacted DPI and they sent the relevant doco that says that we can now go up to 50mm bigger in OD for 4WDs in WA.

      Cheers for your help guys.

Do you guys, there in Australia, have any standard-norm-book where to check out for example OD change of the tire?

We have STRO (Scandinavian Tire & Rim Organisation) book.

I'm sure you'll be very happy with them Grondal... my 75's rub a little on full right lock with a fair bit of compression in the strut so I suspect yours will touch a little earlier.

Spent the weekend up at Landcruiser Mountain Park... http://snaga.optixphoto.com/Album12.htm (unfortunately my navigator/photo getter spent the whole time in the car so no pics of the Playdo )
The Cooper's performed beautifully. The tracks were fairly dry but there were a few water crossings and they gripped perfectly with very little slipping/spinning.
On the way home we came back via a 41klm dirt, winding road and once again they felt very sure footed.

As for standards KZ... every state in Australia has different limits. Don't know about a book of OD standards but you're allowed a certain increase in OD based on the car manufacturers OEM size.

Hopefully soon all states will adopt a universal standard which should make things better for us here in QLD.
          Cheers, Leon

            Re: New shoes... Cooper ST's

Was at my mechanic the other day so I took the opportunity to measure the tread depth of the Cooper ST's properly.

The original depth is 14.3mm according to the Cooper Tires site http://www.coopertires.com.au/tyres/st_specs.htm

After approx 47,000k's over 2 years the Cooper ST's now have an average tread depth of 9mm.
I measured all 4 corners of the car and various sections of the tread pattern on each tyre and they're wearing pretty damn level I'd say.

            (on road)
First 30,000k's the tyres were run at 38psi
30k - current the tyres have been run at 45psi
after next weeks rotation and alignment I'll probably go back to 38psi.
(reason for the 45psi was advise from the tyre bloke to offset some damage I did when I blew my rear diff at the end of last year)

            (Off road)
Usually 24psi... don't think I've ever changed from that. Dirt tracks, harder tracks, fast dirt track, sand, mud... all the same.

Noise... well, I don't think I've noticed any increase since new.
Road handling... still really happy with them. Great in the dry and sure footed in the wet.
Off road... still great!! finally had some fun in the mud a few weeks ago on a day trip with McBain and they worked a treat.
Warranty... if the numbers continue, I'm over half way into the warranty klm's but less than half way through the tread.
            Cheers, Leon
