  • Matching caravan wheels to Prado tow vehicle

    Hi,

in the process of specifying wheels for a new caravan we are buying. Aim is to have interchangeable wheels between Prado and caravan.

    Prado is 2002 TX

Enquiry to supplier of wheels to the company making the caravan yielded the following response re wheel compatibility

"The fitment for this vehicle would be P.C.D 6/139.7 with a P15 offset.

I'm under the understanding that anything from a 0 offset to a P20 offset will be suitable for your vehicle.

We only supply 0 offset wheels, therefore your wheels will be interchangeable.
    "

I am no expert so would appreciate some feedback as to the accuracy of this

    Thanks in advance

If you intend on using the wheels on the caravan to fit the Prado, then ideally you are better to get the same offset rims. Not sure what the effect would be if you put different offset rims onto the rear axle in an emergency situation. Don't think I would do it on the front axle.

The comment on P0 to P20 offset being suitable would be incorrect as going to P20 would reduce the track of the Prado and would be illegal. Understandably, you would only do this in an emergency situation.

I would try and source identical rims as your Prado as the first preference. The 0 offset rims would be fine also. If you ran out of spare tyres, you could run the two 0 offset rims on the rear axle of the Prado and the caravan can have unevenly matched offset rims as it won't be such a big deal on the 'van.

Found some 90 series rims you might be interested in

Just check that the offset is the same.

120 and 150 rims won't have the same offset.

Agree with amts, best to get a 2nd hand pair of wheels and give them to the manufacturer to fit. I did this with my new camper.
