What's the maximum tire size you've fitted on your back door?

Will the weight of a large tire damage the hinges?

I am thinking of putting a 285/75R16 as a spare in the near future, what do you guys think of adding a spacer if it doesnt fit?

Mate I have 275/65R16 on my truck as well as the spare. Looking at my spare there is still is a bit of room between the tyre and the door. The only other thing you may want to consider that I have seen on another site is the weight on the door hinges. I remember someone saying that the weight may play havic with the hinges. Ill try and find the discussion and post it for you.

I've got a 265/75 r16 mud on the back as a spare and I'd say there is a little space left before the tyre tread touches the panel. :wink:

maybe a muddie with aggressive side lugs would hit... it also depends on the rim offset!

I'm running 305/70R16 Muddies but the spare is 285/75R16 mudder.
I think it will be a tight fit might catch on the bumper.
I have spaced out the wheel carrier using 25mm box section and off set it by 50mm as well. There is the same clearance now as there was with the std spare wheel on.

I know this is an older thread, but thought it worth mentioning that with the rear door open, a 285/75R16 only just clears the drivers side tail light, you could modify the bumper to fit a bigger tyre, but you wouldn't be able to fully open the door, so you'd need a bumper mounted wheel carrier.
