  • 90 series Prado, Getaway model rim and tyre upgrade

    good day to everyone,
I'm looking for some advice on what I can upgrademy rims and wheels to.

From what I understand it has 16/6 alloys with 225/75/16 tyres

I would like to upgrade to all terrains of around 265/75/16, I have seen this size tyre on many 90 series prados, yes they haven't been the getaway model, but does this matter.
I spoke to a guy in a tyre shop and he seemed to think I could not go wider than 245 on this car!!!
Some advice would be hugely appreciated.
    regards

I also have the 16/6 rim and the biggist tyre is 235/85. Which is what i did and that rounds out to being a 32 inch tyre. The exact size is 31.7 but are called 32's.
From my research for 4wding a taller narrower tyre made sense to me as you get a longer foot print and will cut through mud better and you gain some extra ground clearance too.

If you do want 265's then your will need 16/7 rims and then flears as the tyre will stick out from the guard. The rim's are normally easy and cheap to find if you are happy to put factory ones on as people are regularly putting after market on.

At the end of the day it is personal preference and application of vehicle but there is no wrong way really solong you stick within your state legislation.

    Hope this helps a little.
