Ok, so ive seen people saying that youll have to grind the body seams and remove the mudflaps and what not. But does installing 33in or 285/75 tires bring any mechanical problems? Increased abuse to the drivetrain or suspension? CV's etc??

The diff ratios are just fine on a diesel with 285/75 or 33" (I have both of them), the overall ratio could be even longer.

Yes, the mudflaps need modification in every case. I have driven now 100 tkm with 33" or 285/75R16 tires. No problem at all, original joints, original steering rack mountigs and everything. I can highly recommend 33" tires. 8) The consumption raise is been very reasonable too, less than 0.5 litres/100 km.

Where'd you see that?? Do tell more!
Glen, it was driving around newcastle, it was a white V6 with black sunnies and steel front & rear bars. & sliders. Looked the goods.

my diesel went fine on stockton with the 33's on. You notice a bit of a power sap as soon as you swap up to the bigger size, but you get used to it.

Hi Lockedup! No problems there, I did the same however I used 80 series GXL rims which are 16 x 8 and have a 0 offset which means the rims themselves are wider plus you will have a slightly wider track. They are also regarded as some of the strongest steel rims around! I've got 33" Silverstone MT117 Sports on them and absoloutly love them!
                          Cheers, Ben

The stock steel rims (+30) will produce a narrower wheel track than the stock alloys (+15), which is not good for wheeling off road on hills. Get the alloys instead if possible, or something else with a wider offset (0).

mate of mine put a 2" EFS kit in his TX and is running 255/85/16 bighorns. looks great and the only time the tires rub is when the truck is going over a bank and the suspension is being worked. just wondering how many people running the narrower tire? im thinking of doing the same thing once i can afford it.
