Sounds like a good idea Jeff. Its not the first time I've heard some negatives about the Warburton camp ground ... but I've never seen it.

It was described to me as the local rubbish tip with a fence around it to keep the locals out.

    Cheers

That's a pretty accurate description Chippy.

The problem is, all the lands around the Great Central Road are Aboriginal land, and you're not 'legally' allowed to just pull off into the bush and camp (which is the solution I know I'd find easiest).

I think I mentioned in an earlier post, that other places we stopped at (Tjukayirla and Warakurna / Giles) are quite reasonable spots to set up the tent. So maybe something like; Perth to Niagra Dam (Just south of Leonora), Niagra to Tjukayirla, Tjukayirla to Warakurna, Warakurna to Alice.

      Something to think about anyhow.

If you do come up with other locations you think may be suitable to stop at, drop me a line with the GPS co-ordinates / directions. I'll be heading back to Perth that way in August, so I can check them out to see how they'd suit a group of vehicles if you like.

Sounds like a great idea John.

It would be handy to know what's around and what sort of driving times can be expected between stops.

        Cheers

Top stuff P4X4. That would be a great help.

          Jeff.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

              Just a thought.
Talking to a guy today and he told me we have to get permits to travel on some of the roads on the way to Alice Springs.
I think we need to get a little bit more serious about out direction of travel from Perth as we may have to book accommodation this year and apply for permits ect.

I'm still keen to see as much as possible on the way there. Caves, gorges, Water holes, Mines what ever.

Leaving Perth on Sunday the 28 or Monday the 29??

If we leave on the Sunday that would give us a day to pack the car on the Saturday (as most of us would finish work on the Friday for Three weeks).and 6 days travelling to get there.
Googs track? We need more info on it to see if camper trailer can do it or is it to rough.
Kalgoorlie first night stop I think but where from there?

What are everyone thoughts as I think if we are travelling as a group.

How many are travelling in group.
              From memory there are
              1 Russ
              2 GaryE
              3 Chippy?
              4 Mototrim?
              5 Jeff?
              6 Leachy?
              +7 Pomp
              8 More welcome from WA

Sorry if I omitted some one.

                Add Pomp to your list.

.... and you're right about needing to start planning.

I threw the googs track into the hat early, But I am now thinking that time restraints between the earliest people can leave and the first day of the GTG will make the great central raod the way to get there.

And on the way back, the last day of the GTG is at Ularu, so the most direct route would be back down the great central road.

And as discussed before, the fuel cost of doing the googs in a round trip would be alot higher. and 3 days more than the GCR route.

My guess would be GCR both ways, both for time and $$$.
Maybe the googs can be another big trip???

                        Your thoughts??

                          That's my thoughts.

Its certainly going to be a squeeze for some, as we juggle getting away in the week before the school holidays.

I happy to see what we can on the way there and go directly back after.

Moto may still make it to the starting line but has work commitments and can't confirm yet.

Is there any interesting spots to check out past Kalgoolie worth exploring that like caves or sand dunes?

I don't think it will take 6 days to get to Alice ,How about we get there early and go out the outer side to the Simpson desert for one night?Surprise the other group?

                            Just thinking aloud .

Going there via Port Augusta South Australia adds approx 1200 kms , more & different sights to see

                                Just another idea
