Guys,

I would like to throw open the possibility of going East to west should those interested in the desert not be going the PP GTG, and doing it during the first week of the NSW school Hols. It can just sit there as an option at this point. The reason I raise it is that it would improve the timing of the trip markedly and mean it was more leisurely, but as said before West to east is the current idea to accommodate the PP GTG crowd.

We are going ahead with the trip because we have enough to make it viable. If you would like to be included or are thinking about it, now is the time to indicate. We will be doing it after the GTG but the exact timing is still flexible. The route is still viable also but the posts above give you an idea.

In reality as long as we keep to the start time, the journey in between can be as the mood takes us. The time that we arrive in Birdsville can be shorter, if that is desirable at the time, however, it should not be any longer unless all our loved ones can be informed.

The question of why we would want to be getting committed now while it is so long before going is quite reasonable. The reason is simple. For full time working people it takes quite a lot of time to get everything ready for such a trip. Stan is way ahead of us for the East West trip. This is not something to decide a few weeks before departure but it can be exciting for all involved to plan, prepare and go on trips of this nature.

So how about it, are there any souls out there who are interested in joining us?

I'm considering the trip back. My only problem is that the Mrs will be with me for the GTG. I'm considering joining you and putting her on a plane back to Brisbane as her work commitments don't allow for any more time away after the GTG.

Ladies & Gents,

After alot of consideration I can't see myself and the mrs being able to do the return trip with you over the Simpson.
As much as I really want to, time off work has been the killer for us.
It certainly isn't a trip I would consider on our own so when the opportunity rose I was keen to participate.
Not all is lost though, hopefully we can discuss your plans for Simpson over a beer at the GTG.

At this point in time we have 3 starters committed to do the crossing, Dirttracker, LFandR and Myself although there is still one other who is still a possibility,dependant on getting the time off from his employer.
Anyone else out there who may still be considering?

We are all go now that the route across is now open.
The group has prepared their vehicles well, with nearly all the work to have them desert ready almost complete. The difficulties of doing so are really around knowing what is nice to have, would bring comfort to have and those things abolutely necessary. Stan has been a great help with this as have sites on the Web such at the Mt Dare site and ExplorerOz. The next difficulty is, of course, getting the spare cash to buy all the bits and pieces. I think that everyone going to the GTG will have experienced this. I was surprised when I added all the mods to my vehicle for insurance purposes. I thought I was well equiped for the outback travels that we have been on, however, I have had to add to this for the desert trip. Max trax, new tyres (while putting the half worn ones in the shed), Spot tracker, rear shelving system, behind the rear seat storage, new tent etc. It all adds up. But we all know it is worth it....

Now for the desert!!!!!
