  • Miss March - A Confession!

Ok, I confess! I really didn't drive our Prado onto the top of Ayres Rock last March.

My approach was from the ridiculous, rather than any sense of foul play! The group has a light-heated touch in it and I was expecting for it to be noticed publicly, and appreciated, (or ridiculed) from the fun side of things.

I was just complying with the Rules of the Competition, which was that each image must include a Prado!

Here is the real image, without the Ayres Rock Backdrop....
    (between Oodnatatta and Marla, SA)

...or if it is the Prado that is in the way, here is the Ayres Rock image sans Prado...

Now I must just excuse myself, as I am off to take some images of The Harbour Bridge for the May Calendar!

    No more mischief! Never!

    Best Wishes,

I hate to say it, but you have kinda ruined the joke now and almost assumed that none of us here would get it. Particularly by posting 'the truth' so quickly after putting up the photo...

It would have been funnier if you had of one the competition too!

Good job with the photoshop though, its a complex program.

& Well done with the confession, although I think your antic may have cost you the April votes.

I thought the same thing how on earth did you drive to the top of ayres but though there must be a secret part around the back out of site that's drivable. Top photoshop either way and deserves it's credit (I actually voted for it) haha.

                      Hey BigDog816,

You get my unequivocal vote for your April Beach scene at the current "Best Of Show" (as well as my vote for April). [Sandy beach, deep blue sky, car slightly angled, attacking tyres]

Remembering that it is the aim of the competition to get some calendar-quality images in the 'themed interest range' of the group.

...Which I perceive to be the
                      (1) vehicles, the
                      (2) journeys, and the
                      (3) destinations, of the membership.

I think that your image is a ripper! It is photographically striking, has the theme nailed, and the great scenic background. Not to diminish the current leader, it's an excellent image, but I think it is a great shame for the group that under the current rules, your image might just hit the cutting room floor (And a number of others as well) with the votes as they stand! Perhaps this will all be accounted for in the end.

The problem that Aaron faces is to make each and every month look interesting enough to justify the (kitchen or garage) wall space for the entire month. One way to do that may be to do a collage of images, (on some pages at least), thus reducing size per image and the critical dependency of required image quality if there is only one image per page, remembering the core interest of the group is not photography.

I think that the 'group voting' stimulates group interest (and a bit of controversy - which also stimulates interest), and I am sure that it will make these 6 weeks entertaining, and I am sure that the rules will further evolve. Themes (beaches, mountains, deserts etc) may be a good device to broaden the range of quality, interesting, and topical images.

The question to Aaron is how best to project the group through this Calendar, and perhaps how to plan for next years approach, assuming that should the process be repeated.

Given that all have some holiday/tour snaps, but only a few of my include the vehicle. I guess at the very least we will all start taking more images which include the manditory 4WD.

Congratulations of that great image, I think it would be great to see it included somehow.
