Basic Trip Outline
Friday 28th September: Arrive at Bendleby Ranges for evening meet and greet.
Saturday 29th September: 4wdriving at Bendleby Ranges
Sunday 30th September: 4wdriving at Bendleby Ranges
Monday 1st October: Pack up camp, travel to Loxton, easy travelling; Loxton is the opportunity to stock up on supplies and fuel etc.
Tuesday 2nd October: Pack up and head to Ngarkat Conservation Park. Groups will take one of 2 different routes, either; all the way along the Border Track (hard option) or along the Centre Track (easier option) then onto Border Track. Camp at Red Bluff, this is a bush camp with a drop toilet and no other facilities.
Wednesday 3rd October: Pack up and continue down the Border Track to Emu Flat Rd, then travel to Beachport via bitumen.
Thursday 4th October: Beach and dune driving in the Beachport / Robe area with varying degrees of difficulty from slightly challenging to very challenging i.e. almost certain to involve recoveries.
BBQ tea and Prizes / awards night.
Friday 5th October: More Beach and dune driving in Robe / Beachport area. Mild to wild once again.
Saturday 6th October: pack up and farewell.
The entire trip should be able to be completed by a standard Prado, although some modifications would certainly make life a little easier.
We expect that all participants will be able to complete all the tracks at Bendleby, however we will be starting with the easier tracks and working our way up, so people can stop if they feel they are getting out of their depth; help will be provided to those that need it to work their way through any difficult spots.
The rugged beauty of this area has to be seen to be appreciated; it will take your breath away. This is mountainous terrain with sharp and loose rocks; it can be rough on tyres.
The transit through Ngarkat is mallee sand dune country at the start, and mud holes at the end. The Border Track has some of the biggest inland sand dunes in the country. There are bypasses around most of the mud holes, but depending on the weather leading up some mud may be unavoidable. Mallee tracks can often have scrub encroaching onto the track so some light “bush pin striping” is possible. For those towing camper trailers this section may provide some of the most challenging driving of the trip! The only option to transit large caravans through Ngarkat is via the bitumen.
The Beachport / Robe area will provide some of the most spectacular scenery and some of the best beach driving you will find anywhere. The sand can often be soft so low tyres pressures will be the order of the day. Once again the coastal scrub can encroach on the tracks so again some light “bush pin striping” is possible.
Transit distance from Bendleby to Beachport via Ngarkat is approx. 800kms, add another 2 -300 kms of great 4wdriving at Bendleby and Beachport.
Details on minimum vehicle requirements, expected costs and registration process will be available soon!

Fantastic! Congratulations GTG crew, that's some of the best 4wding anywhere in Australia. Looking forward to showing our interstate PP mates what SA has to offer.

Rev Rev Rev, Tsk Tsk Tsk.......... We will have so much more than just sand! Bendleby will cover rocky mountain trails steeper than anything we saw at the QLD GTG, The Border track will not only offer the biggest dunes around but plenty of ruts to test your flex, also bog holes big enough to swallow a car if you are game! Even when we get to the beach as we weave between the beach and the dunes you will also find many rocky climbs (its not called the Limestone coast for nothin) and yes we will have some of the best sand driving on offer. Even the sand tracks can offer some unexpected challenges, like getting out of your Prado if you stop in a tight spot!
