Can't wait for these supposed tough tracks the South Oz crew have install.
Might have to kidnap Richo the day we leave so he doesn't miss out on the action.
The FJ will be the official recovery vehicle for the GTG, just call me up on Channel 16 . lol

    cheers

    • I'm excited... but no little wee yet. Lea did ask if I needed adult nappies yet, replied maybe in a few weeks.

        • Just for something different I went for a night run down the Border Track and then back along the centre track last night

The Border track is rough as guts at the moment due to all the people driving it with tyre pressures too high, however after 30+ mm or rain this week the sand was packed s0lid as a rock! It all looked really different in the dark and I didn't even realise I was at the big dunes when I got there, normally they are a challenge but not last night. Only way they would have been a challenge was if I took the camper, and reversed it up the dunes, in the dark, with no lights

Didn't go down the bottom half of the border track, that would have been the opposite though, the mud holes would have been so bad that nobody would even contemplate tackling them, instatn write off if you tackle some of them in the wet.

Hopefully it is dry leading up to the GTG, it really hasn't rained in this area for the last 3 months, which is more like normal for around here, so dry is the most likely scenario!

Centre track was much better, easy but at least you could do 30kms/hr as it was sort of smooth! Lots of skippys about though!

          Cheers Andrew

He's certainly talking the talk... Can't finish the GTG without walking the walk!

                  • If its wet I'll give it a go If it's dry I will probably break out the winch as I will be one of the people towing on the centre track!

I sent an email to all those coming. Just a couple of quick questions that we need answered to help in the planning. A quick reply from all would be appreciated.

                    cheers Andrew

Unless my memory fails me completely (as if!) we'll be doing the Border Track ... not the Centre Track!! Not as much o a challenge taking the trailer down the Centre Track

Andrew, that is irresponsible. I demand you have your lights on, which will assist in the filming

The mrs had a question about facilities at the camp spots, I see from previous posts that red bluff has only pit toilet, what about the other places?

Have a look at my rig build, first page, I built my own. The most I have ever weighed it at was 1100kg fully loaded with everything we could fit in when we left for a 8 week trip to the cape! Probably around the 900-950kg for the border track. My camper runs the same track as the Prado, so that helps, and the guys that were with me when I took it down the border track last time should back me up when I say I wasn't mucking around when I tackled the big dunes.

I do like a challenge but I am not in the business of wrecking my gear to prove a point.

EDIT: Thats the camper trailer I built in my avatar!
                                Cheers Andrew
