Hi guys. I posted a question on Aug 2 but don't seem to have got an answer. Before I register, could one of the committee let me know whether it would cause any issues if we departed the group on Saturday 12th in the afternoon and returned Monday morning? We are likely invited to a wedding in Melbourne on the 13th
Cheers.......Wayne
White 2012 GXL 150 TD Auto. Work in progress. Aiming to spend less than when I kitted out the 120!
Hi Wayne, People can register and come sit around in the camp grounds for 7 days if they like and not do any drives.During the GTG you'll just have to sort out your departure and arrival times to fit in with the trips that will be planned for those days. I dont see an issue.Cheers, Mick

Sorry for the delay in a response.
We will be in Talbotville at those dates, so that's easy to do, as long as your happy to drive 4 hrs each way in the middle of the fun
Obviously you will miss a couple or so days of drives etc.
No problem.
G'day. Question for the High Country regulars - what methods do you use to protect your radiator from being eaten by the fan during deep water crossings? Dunno about the 120's and 150's but the 90's use a viscous fan driven by the engine not thermo fans ( which would be much easier to isolate).
Cheers Ben.
Yes I'm just a little bit excited about doing some water crossings!!
The 120 hasa viscous hub fan as well, for a couple of the really deep crossings up the cape I tied it up with a rope. I doubt we would get water that deep in the high country, if it was that deep getting swept down stream would be a bigger worry than the fan.
Cheers Andrew

If your going to cross some deep cold water, if you think the vehicle is so hot the fan is locked, you need to let it cool.
It takes a lot of pressure to get water through your condenser & radiator, plus anything else before it, eg; Bullbar, winch & other things protecting them.
When the fan hits the water it is pretty much stopped unless its fixed.
I used to think about tieing it. I never have.
Because usually you can stop or hold fans with your hand.
The precaution is not diving in, more gentle entry & power through.
I have not seen anyone else worry about it much nor have I seen problems.
I think your more likely to have problems with a fixed fan and if you hit it hard, & with more r.p.m.

When you drive through a crossing deep enough and long enough for water to get to the point that the fan hits it you will know about it, even with the viscous hub it doesn't stop the fan and it makes a god awful sound, hence why I tied my fan a couple of times up the cape. 99% of water crossings aren't deep enough or long enough for the fan to hit.

Picture 7 is Ivanhoe Crossing at Kununurra, and yes it was flowing fairly well, that was our first real water crossing with our first Prado.
The muddy water picture was from our last trip going across the Gunbarrel Highway.
Cheers Andrew
