I was wondering if you could outline the 'van suitable' tracks you will be taking from Mansfield to Talbotville? Would love to explore the area with the van but want to avoid any tracks with 'nasty little surprises'. I have been down to the VHC a couple of times in the past but both times was in a convoy and not completely sure of the exact tracks we took - though I do remember the Herne Spur track out of Wonnongatta Homestead definitely being NOT 'van suitable'!!
There are none. If you want to get from Mansfield to Talbotville with a van you would have to take the Great Alpine Rd and down Dargo High Plains Rd. With an off-road trailer you could do 90% of it but the other 10% would need sponsorship to cover tyres and damaged equipment.

I'm going, but not on the list, so the figure must be 39.

        • It is with deep regret that I am forced to withdraw from the GTG. What with the move to Broome on 21/2, my leave plans have been scuttled with job demands through March, April and May. Bugger. The missus will be starting at a new job too when we get to Broome so her ability to take holidays has been ruined as well. I had so much fun at the SA GTG in 2012, meeting so many great people and having an absolute fantastic time experiencing the Flinders, Border Track and Beachport sharing with so many Prado enthusiasts. We were both looking forward to a great time in Victoria and planned on heading up to Brisbane for ANZAC day. Thanks to all the organisers and best of luck to all attendees.

          • That's a bummer Dave, work really is the curse of the traveling man.

Might have to try and catch you in Broome one day

Speaking of work, posting this at 3 in the morning from the cab of a truck

            Cheers Andrew

              • Work getting in the way again? It is a shame tripping does not pay the bills. How am I going to tell the misses that her favorite storyteller will not be coming. You do realise that when I tell her your moving to Broome she will insist on visiting.

                        Unacceptable. You are required to:
                        1. explain why you are remaining in Qld with Cindy.
                        2. Distribute your allocated petrol/diesel allowance amongst those going
                        3. Explain to the children why the PP fairy coincidentally wont be there also.

We urge you to think about the children Richo.... the children!

MLC answers to your insightful questions
                          1. I really don't need to answer this some of us have seen phots of you in the SA GTG sandunes and Cindy on the Bungalow thread.
                          2. I have now converted the petrol/diesel allowance to a beer allowance as I won't be driving.
                          3. There have been some issues with the Pradopoint Fairy's "blue card" apparently the government dept has seen the pink tutu photo

I will leave it in your capable hands to carry the flag for the Queenslanders (or beer whichever is easier).

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

PS: I will however be doing a trip in September, Qld Gulf country, across to Tennant Ck, down to Alice Springs, Finke River to Mt Dare, Birdsville then back to Brisvegas, I am sure I will see the PPF on that trip somewhere.
