  • Start preparing your images

Just a little heads up that the calendar competition will start within the next couple of days and wrap up at the end of November.

Before you enter please keep a couple of things in mind:

    • you must have a high resolution image (5+ mb) in order to enter. Low resolution images will not print and we don't want to have to substitute winners at the last moment.
    • please enter your image is just one category.
    • if you have had a previous winning entry, don't submit that same image again. Lets see some fresh ones.
    • read the rest of the rules / conditions on the competition website.

As soon as the competition website is ready, I'll email everyone and post the link here.

This is also a reminder to keep an eye out for your calendar order code if you are a financial member. You must use this code to order your calendar. This time around, I'll be cutting off ordering dates prior to sending them to print to reduce waste.

    Thanks & good luck.

That's interesting, that rules out every single picture I have ever taken, including the ones that were printed in last years calendar and the year before!

    What's changed?

    Cheers Andrew

Perhaps Aaron means 5 mega pixels.

I doubt it, 5 mega pixels is low resolution by today's standards. Most of the images taken with my real camera (not the phone) are upwards of 3 mb with many approaching 7 or 8 mb in size.

Is there a catagory for "Men of PP"

I haven't entered this one yet:

Please don't bench me for too long, its not that offensive. In fact its a pretty good tush really, just saying.

Resolution is a measure of acceptable print size given a set DPI. So given that the calendar has a physical print size and Aaron has set a particular acceptable DPI, then working backwards a minimum of 5MP is required.

A higher resolution photo just means that it can be printed at a much larger size than those of a smaller resolution given the same DPI requirement. As the calendar isn't as large as a poster at a bus stop, then 5MP would be sufficient.

                      The size of a file isn't a measure of a photo's resolution.

The size refers to file size - it's just an indicator that the file will have enough resolution to print. A 3mb iPhone JPEG when open in Photoshop has a pixel size of approximately 24mb. So that will actually print reasonably well.

The main issue we have had before is that the image uploaded is the highest version available and a 150kb JPEG just won't print.

So a HDR iPhone photo should be plenty big enough then?

The photo for this month in the current calender is one of mine and the file size was 1.20mb. It looks Ok to me hanging on the wall next to my desk.

Anyway, if 5mb is the go then no entries for me this year

                              Cheers Andrew
