Does anyone know of some common problems or service requirements with the 90ser diesel at around the 200,000km range eg. clutch, turbo, timing belt????

    Hi Plunko,
If the cylinder head hasn't already been changed, it may need it within the next 50,000 KM. Have a look in the 90 series section. There have been quite a few cases of heads cracking in the diesel 90's.

      Re: 90series 200,000kms

Timing belt (should) be done @ 150,000km intervals - early 90 series it was 100,000km.

Check the cooling system is working fine, you should not see the needle move at all even on a steep long hill climb either on the road or when 4WDriving. I would suggest a water temperature monitor (with alarm) to keep an eye on the water temp for you. The 1kzte doesn't like to overheat.

I have my temp sensor located on the bolt that holds the engine interface connector on the upper hose pipe. The maximum temp I have seen is 92 degrees both in summer on a steep hill climb on the road & also on Fraser trying to beat the high tide in the soft sand. Even at this temperature, the OEM gauge did not move.

Check the starter motor has no indication of being covered in engine oil - it sits directly below the oil filter & if the drain hose is blocked oil will drop into the starter motor & it will eventually fail.

Check it will go into 4WD ...& out again

Whilst in 4WD make sure there are no odd sounds. There will be a chain drive type sound since the low range is chain driven.

      Cheers

Not meaning to nit pick, but the chain in the T-case is for the front prop-shaft flange and is always driven. Low-range is driven by planetary gears.

Roo, that sounds like good info!
I noticed it was over a year ago you post that, any updates to that? anything changed in the last 15months?
Also can I ask why you like to change waterpumps and thermostats?
Its just that I have not changed mine, I sort of think if it aint broke dont fix it? dont want to unecasarily upset things....
I understand they leak from time to time, any problem with waiting till it leaks? or is there an other issue?
