  • Petrol/gas and or Diesel Prado injector troubles which year to buy 120 series

    G'day there

Looking at buying a Prado diesel or petrol from 2006+2009 as a family vehicel and also to tow a 2+ tonne boat and caravan. I have vague memories about hearing about injector problems with some diesel engines. Which year is the ones to look at if i buy a diesel?

Secondly if I buy a petrol, did the 2007 update have improved torque?

Thirdly what are petrol Prado like on LPG, (power output, reliability, any negative effect on engine life). If Prado is good on gas tehn what is the best gas system for them and approx prices for a gas conversion

    Thanks

    Kevin

2006 on D4D engines had the injector issues but at 2008, Toyota issued out different injectors.

Power and torque for the V6 petrol engines have remained the same throughout the 120 series. In 2005, the auto went from 4 speed to 5 speed.

As for gas conversion, you will lose the rear petrol tank and in place, you will get a 70L LPG tank (or thereabouts). This reduces the distance travelled by a few 100km if both tanks are full. But if this doesn't worry you, then LPG conversion is real cheap motoring. Just more visits to the servo.

To convert to LPG it would cost anywhere between $2500.00 & $3500.00 depending on which type you choose, better off with direct injection type. It will take a lot of driving to regain the outlay though. My V6 is adequate when it comes to economy considering the way I use it.

        Hi Kevin

You should get a good idea of the fuel use of both engines by checking out the 'fuelly' sigs at the bottom of some of the posts. These are 'real' and not estimates so you get a good idea of what they really return over a good period. From what I have seen I wouldnt bother with the cost/annoyance of lpg.

In a couple of years we will probably upgrade to a used 150. I think we will get a v6 manual. Big savings on the second hand market and okay fuel economy around time/excellent on the highway.
