  • D4D Owners, any regrets not going the V6?

Still tossing up between the D4D and V6 so I pose the question to current D4D owners, do you have any regrets going the diesel over the V6?

Vehicle will be used for round town driving and weekend trips (mainly hwy driving). No offroad excursions planned.

PS Having done the sums, the D4D would still work out cheaper to run even with the $1K premium over the V6 and a timing belt change at 100,000kms.

Absolutely no regrets, even after playing in the sand dunes with the V6's.

      no regrets either.
its is noisy compared to V6 when idle etc but once moving i reckon its the same...45% more fuel efficient, 1500k's before i need to refill, definately no regrets. (most of my driving is city too and honestly you dont notice its a diesel).

          had a 2004 Vx petrol - D4d

missed the smooth motor on start up and instant power. But with the D4d modified im its same performance to 100kph but then from 100-180kph my modified d4d is definitely faster.

          No regrets.

            As xvprado said,
For me, D4D everyday, with one exception.
Fun factor ON road = D4D

            As everyone has said.
            NO Regrets.

Thanks for the informative responses guys.

I've driven both and didn't notice the noise on the D4D that much (in city driving). Very smooth and refined and good pickup... for a diesel. Loved the sound of the turbo whistle. 8)

V6 with LPG vapour injection  That throws a spanner in your theory.. Lower running costs, more power with LPG too.

(Just to put all options into context) :P

                    Effortless

Effortless and willing are the best two words to describe the V6.

I don't know if 1500 km is 45% over the V6 since I have the V6 and with general around town highway and some boat and trailer towing thrown in my economy is pretty good. I'm over 1200km to this tank and the light has only just come on!

300km out of 1200 is 25% and I still have 30l left in the tank - and I don't baby it either.

                      Ed, I am impressed, 1,200klms for 150ltrs (180 - 30) in a V6 = 12.5 litres per 100klm. Thats sensational.

                        HI Ed
                        i gave some mis-information there.
i've only filled the tank 3 times - all when i was at 1500k's, ...it still has a range of 300km's to go, and the light wasn;t on. so i undercooked it there, sorry!

                            Guys,
My figures are by no means rigorous as I'm still only guessing the remaining fuel but essentially the vehicle gets between about 12.5 to about 16.5 l /100km depending on the type of driving and usage. the 9.6l/100km seems better for the diesel I would have expected it to be at least that good.

When I was first running the car pre mods but including the bullbar I was getting better than 12l / 100km on highway even towing a small lightly loaded box trailer. The addition of roof rack, lights, lift kit etc etc has put paid to those kinds of figures but I'm still happy with the average of around 13-14 l/100km especially considering the kind of performance that you get from a vehicle of this size.

                              hi Matt

Can I ask the V6 owners why they would go the V6 over the current D4D?
