I have decided to buy a new Prado here in the Philippines its going to be a 3.0 diesel manual to cope with the mountainous and rough roads here. But I am not sure whether to wait as the engine seems to be the old one 1KZ-TE the dealer told me there is a minor change in Sept. Does anyone think the engine might change in the future or shall I go ahead and order now.

G'day Paul and welcome aboard.
I don't know if Toyota Japan are still manufacturing 120s with the 1KZ-TE engine, the D4-D engined Prado is the standard issue in Australia now - the 1KZ-TE hasn't been available here for almost 12 months.
If you have the choice, I'd go the D4-D over the older engine any day, they are light years apart in terms of technology and hence performance.
I wouldn't pay much more either, the Aussie vehicles with the D4-D sell for very close the the price of the other model.
Best of luck with it,

Thanks Drew for the information, I will try to wait for the new engine, bit difficult, no car at the moment. I will enquire again at the dealers next week, try and get more information, it seems sometimes that they don't know much themselves, maybe they are sending the Philippines the last of the old engines.

Bear in mind that Toyota Japan might actually still be making 120s with 1TZ-TE engines for certain markets. Not sure how you could find out though if your dealer and Toyota Philippines aren't all that helpful.

Dirty fuel..
There is something in this forum dicsussing dirty fuel in the Philippines and Toyota's reluctance to sell the D4D there. I can find no mention of the D4D on Philippines Toyota website..

" Re: Toyota D4D engine woes
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If Toyota is attributing the problem to dirty fuel present in third world countries (ie. Philippines) then what about those D4-D engines in Egypt, Middle East, Latin America, Africa, etc.. Those countries dont exactly have the same kind of supposedly "cleaner" diesel fuel quality that can be acquired in first world countries in Europe or North America. And since someone posted that D4-D engines are suposedly very reliable in those part of the world then Toyota's dirty fuel hypothesis does not seem plausible at all, unless of course Toyota can prove that the Philippines has the dirties fuel quality in the world "Oct Build 2006 D4D Silver VX 5sp Auto
