  • Paint/upholstery protection

I'm of the opinion it's a crock of crap, I'm told that 4 coats of mothers will do the same job for $40.00 it's one tenth of what thier asking at toyo, also would they really let you buy a car knowing the paints going to fade in 5 years time ? your thoughts ?

Same. I reckon it's a total scam and not worth what they charge.

not worth it IMO. It's an 'upsell' product for sure. Our second car to the Prado we got the dealer to throw in fabric protection as a deal sweetener... Ask for both for nix

Fabric protection could be handy if you get cloth seats but as said get it thrown in for free, paint protection is jsut a layer of polish

You need to be careful with what the paint protection is, I have paint protection on my second car only because it is a specially developed one that protects against bat droppings, and so far so good, no etch marks from bat droppings.

i know a guy who does this for a living with the car dealers and he told me not to waste my money on it and that "it was a load of crap"

so i will trust his judgement and give it a big miss. (he does the "paint protection thing etc" as well as repairs to cars bumpers, dents etc for car dealers)

As I suspected, by chance just before I drove the car away the manager asked me if I had any prob's so far and I gave him a serve about how they should stop plying this scam, I said so right you pay $70,000 for a car and the paints gonna fade ??? that to me is an inferior product, that got him he couldn't argue I was right and he knew it, then to ram the point home I said, if it was vital that this had to be done shouldn't Toyota do it before they sell it ???
he then said "as of next month Toyota will no longer ask the customer to pay for this service"
game set and match I think............

Thanks mate, so far it runs like a rolls and the fuel consumption is noticably exceptional, the tow bar goes on in a couple of weeks then in Oct we'll see how she tows, at 127Kw she should pull the freedom with ease, so far very happy,
                    cheers,

Upholstery protection can be a double edge sword. Areas can be missed when applied or wear out and as a result can be noticed. To clean the upholstery is harder due to the fabric protection already applied.

Paint protection... It's like a carbon tax Buy a good wax, after the the job is done, get a chair, a beer and admire your work

Dealers way of making margin, tell him to jam it and buy a couple of spray cans of scotch guard from Bunnings

+ 1 on the scotch guard. 2 cans will be enough.
there are a new breed of Super Sealents currently hitting the market. Initial tests are impressive to say the least, durability is awesome and protection from bird/bat shit is great also, but they don't claim for it to be fool proof against these contaminations, Nothing will.

These super sealants need to be applied by highly trained specialist. Done wrong and it will ruin the finish, and removal is by machine compounding only. check out http://www.zas.com.au/product/445/op...-coat_2.0.html

also check out my rig build up, some useful info there.

With paint if you are not the type of person who likes to wax/polish then a sealant is the only way to go. The one below is one of the few sealants you can apply and actually wax over as well with good effect. Great for the wheels.

                            http://www.carcareproducts.com.au/pr...ar_coat_polish

If you like to wax then a good carnuba is the best way to go ( such as DoDo Juice etc). Good carnubas are actually easy to apply as you use a super thin layer and it wipes right off. Usually the next day you have a haze thinking you missed some spots but is normal, just wipe and shines better than a new one. Good thing with carnuba....branches slip across the paint easier instead of latching on a gouging.

Upholstery protection....have not used as I have MSA seat covers but Nanolex is all the rage at the moment. I have Nanolex glass sealant on and mud just falls off, rain no wipers needed as long as the rain is above a drizzle...i.e. more rain the better. The urban stuff works at low speed and is awesome....never will you hear wiper chatter again too.
