Join the club! My handbrake has been hopeless for ages. I have now changed the shoes, discs/drums, pads (not handbrake related I know) and the cable. I have adjusted it myself and also had a few mechanics have a crack at it (one of which I had to explain how to do it) and it is still absolutely useless on anything but the mildest of inclines.

I'm starting to think the I was sold the wrong drums. It's almost like they are too large by a few thou so the shoes can't grip them properly

[QUOTE=Esses;319766]Got underneath on the weekend & had a look around the solenoids. Found 2 with a 3-way fuel junction on both. One is obviously "outlet" to the engine & the other the return lines. I can definitely feel one solenoid clunking, but not the other.

According to my mechanic, my Prado actually only has one solenoid (which is working), the other junction contains two 1-way valves to control fuel-flow. Go figure.

Williade, not as silly as you think but maybe the wrong linings? A Mini I had once had been fitted with the wrong, narrower but THICKER drum linings from an earlier model & then the drums HAMMERED back on. Took me all my time to get them off!
