  • Advantages of buying Series II of the 90 series?

    Hi
I'm thinking of buying the series 90 Prado post Aug 1999, as there were some major mods made then. Were these mods only of a superficial nature? Like the badge and indicator lights etc. Or were they of a greater degree? Like stronger suspension, better safety features etc.
I was of the opinion I wanted to buy a post Aug 1999 model, but if the changes are only superficial then I suppose I shouldn't exclude the pre Aug 1999 models as well?
    Thoughts?
    Regards - Brendan

    Hi Brendan,
The changes made in Series 2 that I can think of are:
    Different grills
    Plastic headlights instead of glass
    New tail lights
    New centre console
    New door cards
Head rests on the 3rd row seats
    60/40 split middle row seats
3rd row seats have quick release buttons
GXL trim gets remote central locking
Separation of VX and Grande trim levels (was the one trim called VX Grande previously)
Introduction of the 3.0L Diesel engine option
Introduction of Traction control for Grande (not sure about VX)
Introduction of push button centre diff lock on traction control models (auto transmission models)

That's all I can think of for the moment.

    EDIT:

Fog lamps were introduced on all models from GXL and up

You mean a VAF sensor? MAF uses a hot wire where VAF is a mechanical device. From the outside they don't look any different. You need to remove it to see the internals.

I thought it was a MAF. I'll have to check as I was about to pull it off and give it a clean. :?

I know my 97 VX Grande had the wire as I went and bought some of the CRC cleaner for it, its on the air inlet before airfilter. ??? is this what everyone is referring to ?? Suppose to clean it every now and then to remove and dirt/residue and suppose to give possible better fuel consumption, the 120 V6 has one as well ..............Cheers Steve
