  • 06 Prado GXL Diesel Auto

Just looking at one of these that is very well looked after. Has 90,000KLms and owner worked for Toyota and has looked after the car. No beach work and comes from country so only really Highway and some town driving.

My only concern is it is not the D4D and from all I read on here and elsewhere I am told only get a D4D.

Anyone like to offer some advice on this?

    Thanks

I had a 2004 diesel and now have the d4d. The new engine has more power and is more economical. It is also noisier and its reliability has to be proven. For the right price, i can recommend it. Fred

      Thanks Bruggie.

If you don't mind me asking do you mean the older motor is noisier and has reliability to prove or the D4D.

Sorry I am asking as I have only been looking at D4Ds and they get pretty good feedback so have no idea about pre D4D motors.

No problems, i realised my reply was somewhat confusing after sending it. The d4d is noisier in my opinion and has to prove its reliability (there is a topic on that). Hope this helps. Fred

thebigo - I have an 06 1KZ manual (not auto). I am more than happy with it. If you can afford the D4D then get it, but I actually think the old 1KZ is a good reliable motor. It was used by toyota for a very long time. I like manuals for pretty much all driving except for sand, in which case auto is easier (particularly when you hit a soft patch and need extra power quickly).

I am in the market for an newer model but they are a bit scarce at the moment. Everyone seems to be hanging on to them. I was looking at a D4D as my KZ gets 13L@100 empty on the freeway sitting around 95kmh. I usually get 15L@100 pulling a 4 metre van.
As has been said the KZ is a strong motor, if a little slow and thirsty.
Must try and find the thread about the D4D problems.

                  Hutch,

Did you just refer to power and D4D in the same sentence? Are you sure you're not coming over to (and I quote) "D4D POWER"!!!!!

I said u would have d4d power, not that the d4d is powerfully, second thoughts u could trade up to a 2007 Petrol and I happen to know where their is a good one.
