All these points for and against and one common theme arises, I thought diesels were super efficient went for 500000ks without any issues.

Seems like they are no different to petrol except now more expensive to own.

    Richo.

Good call Richo. The fact I own a diesel now wouldn't stop me from buying a petrol in the next vehicle. In fact, how many of us would push the limits and keep a car hoping to get 500,000k out of it? Most of the folk on here seem to change cars at around 100,000k. Longevity is not an issue.

I'm not sure that there is any significant reliability difference anymore petrol to diesel. For me it was simply about towing and the diesel definitely uses a lot less fuel towing than my mates petrol. This gives the added benefit of better range on a tank.

This is true, but the more frequent servicing of a diesel pretty much eats up any fuel savings. Of course, you can do the oil changes etc yourself, but unless you fabricate the books when you sell the car you don't have a full log-book history. Potentially, this lowers your selling price again...

I test drove a Pathfinder before I bought a Prado. The thing had no soul to it. It felt all wrong and it was a loud car to drive. My dad went and bought one at the same time I bought my Prado and everytime I drive it I cant stand it.

The Pajero is just boring and whilst I did like the curved front wheel arch it is now starting to look dated.

The Prado is just a good all round car.

V6 and D4D both have the same service interval!

I am heading out on a trip in a couple of days time, I am taking the Prado, we also have a Pajero going and a V6 Challenger, I'll let you know who performs the best.

Interestingly the Challenger being a Petrol is unable to carry enough fuel (300lts) to complete the trip, so us diesel drivers are pitching in to help him out seeing as we only need to carry 220lts of diesel, and we still probably have to take turns towing him the last 100k's

                Cheers Andrew

We did the same and the Pathfinder felt like a commercial vehicle whereas the Prado felt like a passenger car and is still a pleausure to drive for both SWMBO and myself!

I looked at all those and the Challenger. The Prado was definitely the nicest to drive and felt the most like a passenger vehicle, it is just a bit more refined.
