  • 120 Series Prado - I'm Losing Hope

Been trying since Jan to find a 2008/2009 Silver GXL Diesel Auto with less than 80,000 klms in Brisbane region.

I found a great looking 2009 one in the beginning at a dealer and asked about the previous owner. Was told he was an old bloke and he never took it on the beach etc and just decided it was too big and downsized to a Lancer. I said to the salesman so a bloke buys a close to 60k 4wd then less than 3 years later decides its to big. Also mate can you explain all the sand i found in behind the door rubbers in every door. No he couldn't. I left pretty ticked off that salesman are still so dodgy.
I then found a great 2007 one in the country owned by the local Toyota mechanics wife to do school run and shops. It was immaculate and my heart sunk when i found out it was just before the D4D. Dam
Then found 2 in Brisbane that were brilliant and went off to firm up my finance and before I had time to blink both were snapped up.

Any advice here. Do I just hang on and wait. Some dealers have told me more will be coming through as the new ones are delivered but no idea when.
Second to that what klms are a good start. I want this for about 3 years so would like to start with relatibvely low klms.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

Of course my mate with a Pajero is in my ear about how much chepaer and how much option there is if I go with a Pajero VRX. Heaps to choose from. I'm standing my ground on a getting a Prado for now.

      2007 would have been a D4D, D4D came in
      Late 2006.

Advice: Have finance pre-approved. This way you know how much you can borrow - tell them the style / type of car you are looking for.
Then when the car you want comes up, leave a deposit to hold it while you take a few days to get finance officially sorted.

Samo, yeah one of those I am kicking myself for missing was Private. Only reason I looked at Delaers was the one Toyota dealer that had that pre D4D Prado was including a 3 year warranty on top. I guess with the threads I have read in here about injector problems etc if I bought from a dealer maybe it would help if i had any issues.

Hutch, apologies mate it was early 2006. My mistake now that you corrected me it came back to me. I think it was late 2006 when they told me the D4D arrived.

timmay5.7, yep mate Finance is now ready.

There is currently one I noticed with 89,000 klms on it and 2009. Is this an OK number of Klms to start with.

Just bought a 2008 with 80 k. White auto. Very happy with it. But yep it was a bit of a search, and they hold their value, so you're gunna pay through the nose for it.

Hpycmpr - yep pay through the nose is true. I am still gob smacked dealers here are asking me to pay closer to $54k driveaway for a 2008/2009 GXL with 80,000klms plus. I'm like guys the 150 series are not far in front of that. To be honest 45 to 50 is fair for a 2008/2009 with less than 80,000klms. A quick session on carsales will have you scratching your head saying WTF.

D4Dforme - mate I'll keep an eye out. I've got my name down with some Toyota dealers and I follow them up every few weeks to remind them.

amts - ta mate I am getting the same response from dealers that more are coming out of lease and closer to June will be my best time.

I can only say to you that it's worth the wait. Easily the best car I have ever owned. Seem to be cheaper in WA and NT than the southern states.

Yup, my 2008, came off lease in Nov, so I bought it. I have driven many cars, and this is easily, the best I have ever driven. The longest I have kept a car before this was 3 years on my previous lease, but by the end of those 3years, could not wait to get someone different...

Good luck in your search, and yes, they hold their value.

I brought a 2009 manual for $57100 on road. My lease finishes in 2014 and I have no intention of selling it at this stage when the latest model is crap. Hate to see what the next model will be like. The rate at which Toyota (and other vehicle manufactures) is going soon they will have fine print stating not for off-road use on their brochures.

Yeah I was really unsure if I should make the stretch to a 150 series or get the last of the 120's. It took me a while but I have swung over to the 120 as the better pick for now. The one thing I really can't stand on the 150's is that 1970's looking dash and console layout that looks like a Sigma or a Cressida vomited into a modern legend that the Prado has become.

I can't wait to get one though. Been reading up heaps on this site and you all contribute some fantastic stuff.

Always get the last of a model and not the first. In relation to build qualities, I hate to think what 4x4's will be like in 10 -15 years, that’s if they still make them.
