  • What should I look for when collecting my new Prado?

On the face of it this is pretty logical, but I'm after others views on what I should be careful to check when I collect my new Kakadu from the dealer shortly?

Are there lessons others have learnt that I could benefit from?

One of the things I need to think about is what to ask the dealer to program in the car like auto open/close windows with the key fob. What else should I know?

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Double check the have included the fixed price servicing. My dealer failed to enter it into the system, claimed I didn't specify it. Our fleet no longer use that dealer.

Typically NOT with fleet, hire, govt etc. purchases.

I'd be checking every panel and join, fuel load, check every button works, look for any signs of damage.

Interesting, but every other Prado in the fleet has got the fixed price servicing from other dealers. Sometimes it pays not to go with the quote that's $50 less than another dealer.

I mainly look for damage to panels or interior, anything else should be covered under warranty if you discover a problem a few days down the track.

When I did work experience many many years ago at a local car dealer I recall a new 4wd that I cleaned for delivery, it had a small dent in one of the doors, the dealer didn't do anything about it saying if the owner doesn't spot it before he leaves then bad luck, can't prove where it happened.

Never did buy a car from that dealer after that.

            Cheers Andrew

Funny... there was an existing thread specifically on this topic - but it has since been closed/archived and none of the posts are visible: New Prado, what to look out for on pickup from Dealer

              Thanks for reviving this thread.

I'd look for a full tank of fuel from the dealer! Always good to check fluid levels and test everything. Always good to take heaps of pics of everything. That way, you might at least have a visual record if something isn't right or missing.

                    1. Make sure you have your insurance in place BEFORE you drive it out of the yard. Ring your insurer from the car dealership office with all the vehicle details, and make sure every single accessory or addition is listed...window tint, floor mats roof racks tow bar, every single item. Many itemsdon't actually affect the premium, but if its stolen or written off it wont be replaced unless its listed on the insurance paperwork.

Thanks to you folks in here I did that roo. Took out the 6year/150k factory warranty I think it was. That and making sure your fuel tanks are clean if you ever need to look to Toyota for warranty related injector issues are two of the best things I learnt in here... Along with using BP Ultimate which I will always try and do.

so true, i learnt this the hard way, list all accessories with the insurance company, and add them to the policy as you add them to your vehicle.
