  • Buying a 2008 D4D 120 Series

    Hi Guys,
Me and the Wife after a long search have finally found ourselves a Prado.
We were looking a a 2005 GLX V6 Auto but for the same money we have turned up
    a 2008 D4D Auto VX. It's done 180 000 K and is super neat, owned by a mates parents.
Here the thing, Im a little concerned about the D4D's injector/rattle issue.
Is the Injector problem on the early D4D engine as simple as replace the injectors and it's fixed,
or is it a re occuring thing? Its the only thing holding me back at the moment.
We're getting this one for $32 000 so if we have to shell out for some injectors, I think we still have got a bargin!
    Any comments would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Bortha

Mate, mine's the same only a year younger for more than twice the price. Sounds like a real bargain to me.
PS: No rattles on mine yet nor any other issues.

    Cheers Jim.

Bortha, there is a 125 page thread here in the injector issue. As I read it, very few cars build after oct '08 had the issue, so it might be worth checking the compliance plate. Even so I'd suggest that is a great buy.
        Regards, Heath.

From the research I turned up on the rattle (online and a mate at work had his replaced under warranty), it was only pre 2008 D4D's that it was an issue on, and replacing the injectors (approx $1200 each) solved it. I wouldn't be worried about it if I was you. That sounds like a bargain, I just bought a 2008 GXL (with half as many k's) for 10g more, and it doesn't have the rattle and the injectors were never replaced. I'd get it!

November 2008 build, January 2009 delivery. 73,000km regular servicing and just blown 2 pistons due to failed injectors. So no, it's not just the pre 2008 D4D suffering from these issues.

Mate best advice I can give is read the thread on the Injector issue under the 120 Series section.

From all the reading I did there were still problems with some 150 series Prados. I'll be corrected if wrong here.

To be honest nothing is gurantee and the majority of these Prados run faultless. If you looked at the thousands made and the percentage with issues and then compared to issues other cars have particular to them you wouldn't buy anything.

I just got an 09 in the last few months and was worried about that same problem but there is no crystal ball so I just bought it. I couldn't be happier, best car I have owned.

Not really. Depends on who's had it... Around my parts, that's 2 years.

                        Hi Guys.
Had the car for the weekend and loved it.
Rang the servicing dealer and they went throught the history with me.
The service manager told me mechanically its a really good car.
Loved the space, kids loved it and especially love the adjustable middle row seat backs - lets us lay the kids back in their car seats a bit.
Hopefully pick it up next weekend.
(Not a bad fathers day present)
                        Thanks for the replies
